The Core I7 is pretty damn easy to overclock compared to older chipsets. Consequently, when you haven't spent hours/days/months? continuously tweaking you maybe feel as though your work isn't done...but maybe it is...?

If you still want to go further with your memory, I'm afraid I'll be of little help since I never bothered on mine, and it's screaming fast still. My OC is at 3.8, 4.0 w/ Turbo.
i understand what your saying but im not running my ram at 1066mhz no matter how fast it is. i refuse to use under 1600mhz for ram, im not bothered about 2000mhz right now. but if my CPU can handle 4.ghz which it can then i want my ram at 1600mhz. but the 2 together dont want to play nice.

Ya higher uncore can be, but it can also help stabilize things quicker. Since you are already unstable it doesn't matter really as you need to find stability anyway, so you can just as easily start with 18 or even 17 and still be just as unstable as you are with 16 now, until you find the correct voltages. 18 would be best for performance, and you shouldn't have any issues getting it stable once you start tweaking the QPI/Vtt voltage, don't be scared of it.

You aren't still using x20 CPU multi are you? Use 19 or 21, it will be much easier to stabilize

You still have to set your own voltages at stock even, XMP or Auto isn't going to be able to guess what QPI/Vtt you need.

ok that didnt work. i have moved up QPI volts to 1.375 to see if will stablise the overclock.

    UPDATE:

passed 17 passes of linx now and still no problems apart from my display driver crashed. if this is stable for today then im going to try first thing tomorrow see if its still stable.

one odd thing in linx is my residual is double than the norm and i cant find out for definate if this is good or bad?
