    Exclamation Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Rev1.0 & GSkill F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM & Win7 x64

    Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Rev1.0 (Beta BIOS F12i)
    Intel Core i7 920 @2.6 GHz
GSkill F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM (Ripjaws 3x2 GB Triple Kit)
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
    OCZ Stealth-x-treme 700W PSU
    3 Samsung, Seagate SATAII HDDs

First, it was mobo resetting itself right after the POST screen (following the RAM installation) while installing the new kid on the block - GSkill RAM. With Bios version F12h for Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3r Rev1.0, setting anything above 1066 MHz was ending up with either unmatched RAM amount or a certain reset at the point I've just told about.

Then after being able to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in 3 trials, as soon as I got to the internet, I downloaded and updated to the latest (Beta) Bios from Gigabyte which was F12i. That seemed to have solved the problems that prevented me from running the memory modules at 1600 MHz, and I unknowingly thought that "all my troubles were far away" now.

    No, hell it wasn't.

First I got a BSOD while I was installing .NET Framework 4. I can't make sure since I've seen a couple of them but it may be Memory_control_management error.

Then, while updating and installing other essential stuff on the OS, I got 5 more BSODs the last ones of which were all BAD_POOL_HEADERs.

Some demo file for Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 (Installshield) that I was able to install and play flawlessly the day before I made a RAM and, forcefully, OS upgrade (on Win7 32bit with 2x1GB Corsair RAMs), was refusing to install giving some certain temp location bla bla error with the code 1152 -which, after a hunt down through the internet- was persistent in "some" systems if unsolved through specific procedures.

I figured out that the whole OS was in turmoil having witnessed that another InstallShield installation was unable to complete succesfully. So I ended up with the decision of installing a fresh OS for the nth time, hoping that the RAMS were more "acclimated" with the system as some other computer geek advised me so on waiting for it.

Anyway, now that I use the exact manual configurations suggested by GSKILL TECH there on gskill.us forums, I hoped that I could install my new Win7 Ultimate x64 without encountering any problems, yet I was unfortunate to hope so.

Now, I get "Windows can not install required files. the file may be corrupt or missing" persistently. Another fellow over at GSkill forums who had almost identical problems as mine suggested that such issue could be due to some "unstable overclocking" according to what he could hunt down on the internet. I can also refuse this because I borrowed a friend's Win7 Ultimate after the first error just to see if mine was defective. No, both got screwed through the same error. By the way, I didn't have anything overclocked by then.

Then I suddenly remembered how the PC was acting when the BIOS was F12h. I downgraded RAM clock from 1600 to 1066 which is under RAMs' default specifications, and voila ! I could install Win7 Ultimate x64 without a single error.

I double-checked to see if the problems are still there such as the failed installation of .NET Framework 4 or Nero Burning ROM 10. No, they installed without any problems this time. Only PES 2011 demo is persistent on the error, so I'll see to it after re-donwloading.

It's almost clear that GSkill RAMs at factory clock of 1600MHz can't get along with Gigabyte mobo and Win7 Ult. x64 I have.

Anything I can do to overcome or should I return this kit ? Or the mobo ?

    Please advise.

    Thanks in advance.

And I set DDR to 1600 Mhz then ?

'cause in 1066 Mhz, right now, the PC is in almost perfect shape, no BSODs, no nothing. But I'd like to, of course, get what I paid for.

yes set memory to 12x for 1600 ram and uncore HAS to be x2 memory multi. so set uncore to at least 14 +1 or +2 is ok so either 14, 15, 16

Look at my sig for bsod codes will help tell you which voltage is not set right.

Having clock drives set to 700 indicates the board is using failsafe defaults. Simply changing them to 800/900 isn't enough. Before doing anything else I'd recommend loading optimised defaults, save and exit, and then carry on trying to solve the issue. Many more hidden latencies and settings are effected when running failsafe defaults and it's important to be running optimized throughout the BIOS.

But according to what wazza says it should be 17x ?

Also, if memory multiplier will be set to 12, wouldn't it make 24 for uncore according to what you've said ? Why 14, 15, 16? What am I missing here ?

And that makes third DIFFERENT suggestion.

Guys, what should I do, really ?

I understand this may be confusing.

If your clock drives were both at 700 then loading optimised defaults is an absolute must. It will undermine anything else you do to your settings if not running optomized defaults. It's like building a house on sand. The whole thing could potentially fall over without solid foundation. Loading optimized defaults is required after every BIOS flash.

After loading optomized defaults, you can carry on tweaking.

Do what Psycho says first. I should have said that also...

Yes you are correct on the Uncore multi. if memory is at 12x then uncore should be 24, 25,26

Start with 24 first. You will get better performace at using a higher number but higher number will require more Qpi/Vtt voltage. Also Make sure your qpi/vtt voltage is no less then .5v of your vDimm. i.e. 1.6vdimm requires 1.1 qpi/vtt.
