Default help with 1600mhz ram on new Q9400 build

    hi all
having trouble getting my system running 1600mhz ram speeds
    even 1333 would be nice
its only picking up 1066 and think cpu mite not not be picking up properly either
    any suggestions?

The http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post295784 post has suggested basic settings for stock settings with an EP45 motherboard.
With 4GB of DDR3 memory, MCH Core will probably need to be at least 1.20 - 1.24 with stock settings.
With higher memory speeds, this will probably need to be somewhat higher.

Please include an EasyTune6 screen-shot (step #4) that shows your applied voltages and fill in and post your bios settings using this EP45 bios bios template or the bios template in the post.

(deleted fail safe bios defaults comment for your "L" board.)

Please provide a link to your memory's full specs for your exact model.

    It looks like Corsair recommends:
    TW3X4G1333C9DHX DDR3-1333 (XMS3-10600C9) 4GB Kit (2 x 2GB) 1.5v 9-9-9-24-2T
    for the EP45T
    .

If worse comes to worse, we'll try for stability with 1066MHz memory speeds and then move higher.

It's easier for us to help when you post your bios settings directly in the post along with any useful screen-shots.

Can't tell fail safe from optimized for "L" boards, they always default to 800mV, all I have seen so far.
They also default to 1.55v PLL.

You might be right Chike, I didn't find a definitive answer to the optimized default clock settings for the EP45T-UD3LR in the forum.

    From the memory's data sheet:
    • Tested together at 1600MHz, Vdimm = 1.80V, at latency settings of 9-9-9-24

    Driving Strength Profiles
    Driving Strength --------- : Auto or 1333

    Static tRead Value --------------------- : [7] <-- 6 will be tried later

tRD is a shorthand notation for Static tRead Value (aka Performance Level).
Both memory channels require identical Driving Strength and tRD settings.

    Dram Voltage = 1.60
Manually set the other voltages to the values in my previous post.
Before you save settings and exit, use F11 at the main bios screen to save your settings and give the saved bios profile a name like 333+1333cas9.
The mobo user manual explains how to save and load multiple bios profiles on page 36.
You can't delete existing saved bios profiles, but you can overwrite an existing saved profile and give it a new name.

Boot initially with only one memory module in slot #1.
MCH Core settings that are too high or too low can cause boot loop and/or stability problems.

You don't want to boot into windows until you've run Memtest86+ (v4.1) for several full passes. Faulty hardware and/or improper bios settings will cause memtest errors. The goal is to initially have an error free run. If there are any errors, post the error details (e.g. pass #, test #) and your failed bios settings. Memtest86+ can be run from a bootable floop, usb, or cd/dvd drive.

If your system isn't stable after some minor tweaks, set:
    System Memory Multiplier -------------- : [3.20B]
    Primary memory timings = 8-8-8-22
for running your memory at 1066 speeds.

    Good Luck.

**edit** At the top of this thread, I right-clicked on the blue thread title and used the "copy/save link address option.
Next I pasted the full http:// address and the result is:
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...400-build.html

note: I used the BOLD option to make the address more readable.
Lastly I used the Preview Changes so that I could verify that the link works okie dokie.
This approach works from the main forum thread list or when using the forums search feature.
Once your system is stable, we can cover how to easily link to a specific post in a thread. ;]

An almost 2 year newer bios is bound to help.
Do NOT use @bios for flashing, unless you want to risk bricking your mobo.
    Follow the procedures in http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ash-guide.html.
It looks like all three versions of your mobo use the same bios, but it's best to download the bios from the web page that covers your mobo version.
I tested with memory in slots 2 & 4 for several months with no problems.
