If other people can do exactly what you are doing with that same MB with other power supplies and they don't have the problem - the PS is either poorly designed (likely) or just broken. If they are doing it with exactly the same combination without a problem I would return the power supply. Limited availability here of operational examples of other MB/PS combinations does not allow a conclusive answer. Get a base of examples and we can point to specific power supplies as the problem.

I believed the problem is "caused" by the way the motherboard is trying to operate with your settings. But the problem is the power supply. Find someone locally with electronics knowledge and appropriate test equipment. That is the only way to definitively identify what is happening.

There is an old saw. Patient: Doctor it hurts when I do this. Doctor: Don't do that.

Buy an inexpensive power monitor (< $20) and see what your persistence in using these settings is actually saving. If you use is suitable, let it go to sleep more. If you are doing all this to support sleep, hibernate (I know that is rather more of a pain).

The new MB may or may not fix it. If it does, it may mean the new board does not offer the same power saving options.

best thing is to try different psu: don't like it, exchange for another one

    ok,
after talking the psu tech support, they told me that the psu should not make any noise, and assume that it may be faulty and I should RMA it...
but from a week ago, I noticed that the mobo as well started making clicking/tapping noises around the CPU area when PC is doing stuff !!

so now I am confused... is the psu did something to the mobo?
or its the mobo that its faulty?
or is it both of them?

    Hello

I have the same problem high-pitched noise coming from the motherboard, and I can confirm there seems to be a correlation between the noise and disk access.

I have the same motherboard, with the f11 bios. However, I have a different PSU: seasonic m12-2 620W. The PSU doesn't make any noise whatsoever. The noise clearly comes from somewhere around the cpu socket.

I have tried disabling c1e and c3/c6 states in bios, but the noise is still there.

have you tried with another brand of psu? i can tell you 100% that its not just gigabyte mb's,ive just bought an asus p6x58d-e mb and that does exactly the same thing as my ud5,but i have a very cheap brand of psu so i know that its the psu thats causing it,ill upgrade when i get the chance, tried disabling eist from bios? if i disable c1e it stops the noise for me completely but i can still hear it very slightly when using headphones

all brands of mb can make this noise, some mb's do it more than others though, biggest cause is psu and gpu

even if no sound is coming from the psu it can leak emi(electro magnetic interference) and cause the noise elswhere on the mb,usually the power chokes around the cpu socket as they store and release power to speed up and slow down the cpu

Disabling C1E had absolutely no effect, the noise was exactly the same.

I've just swapped the psu with a fortron. The noise was still there, although it had a different tone.

With C1E and EIST disabled, the noise seemed gone, but on closer inspection it was still there, though much less present.

No noise issues here on any Gigabyte board, using Ultra X2 and X3 power supplies
