Default GA-890FXA-UD5 what do 9, 10, and 11-beep posts mean?

    Hello,

    I have this Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 with a Phenom II X6 1090T and 4x2GB OCZ Platinum 1066 RAM.

45 days ago I updated to BIOS F4 (EDIT: Because the temperature sensors were reporting 0C for everything) using @BIOS. I rebooted and my BIOS came up as normal. I modified the boot order (5 hard drives, two operating systems) and saved. It started booting into Windows 7 (x64) and half way into logging in the machine powered off.

Attempts to power it on gave me 9 beeps.

I sent it off for RMA, got the same board back (SN and thumb print verified) 45 days later with the same problem, so I'm considering what else could be causing this. I'm guessing they decided the board is just fine as-is.

(Edit: This has nothing to do with GIGABYTE's RMA process, it's just relevant info to my situation)

Anyways, here is what I can tell you:

    - 9 beeps with all four RAM sticks in
    - 10 beeps with three RAM sticks in
    - 10 beeps with two RAM sticks in (1&2 or 3&4)
    - 11 beeps with one RAM stick in (any position)
    - 11 beeps with NO RAM
    - NO beeps with no CPU installed
    - Removing the GPU does not change anything

I have tried with new RAM and a different Power Supply, no change.

I'm not sure what else to try. I will be calling Gigabyte on Monday to ask for more info about what was actually done during my RMA process, and I think I will take my CPU into a local computer shop to have it checked in a working machine tomorrow.

If any of you know what those beeps mean (Actually *know*, I can only find general speculations on Google) then please enlighten me. I'd like to get this resolved.

    Thanks :)

I've pulled the battery before but not for that long. I'll give it a shot.

And no, I can't get into the BIOS. I get nothing on the monitors, regardless of anything I do so far.

Keyboard and mouse also don't turn on. Mouse light flickers on when I plug it in and then immediately turns off.

    40 minutes later, no change.

Although I did notice just now that the 11th beep is *slightly* shorter than the first 10. Not sure if this is significant or not.
For 9 and 10 beep posts they are all the same length.

Not using RAID, and no hard drives are even plugged in at the moment.

Haven't tried with another GPU (don't have any other PCI-E cards) but I have removed the card (EVGA nVidia GTX 480) and nothing changes. Also tried moving it to another PCI slot, and no change there either.

you need to test with another card if you can just to eliminate it,youve tried with another psu and ram, youve rma'd the mb and comeback without fault? only thing left is gpu and the cpu,i doubt it would be cpu, could be that bios not compatible with gpu though?

Well it worked for roughly a month without any issues, including overnight stress tests (FurMark) so I would hope that compatibility is not an issue.

Any idea why the GPU would suddenly fail after a BIOS update?

As I said before it has been stress tested and is stable at temps up to 96C. Booting the machine wouldn't bring it anywhere near that kind of temperature.

I'll bring it with me tomorrow and test it in a working machine.

im only guessing that it could be gpu,but if you flashed the bios to a newer one and then it rebooted into windows ruling out a bad bios flash,as it got to loading windows like you said and rebooted maybe the newer bios doesnt support your evga card like the old one did??? sometimes you get things like that and have to flash back to older bios, same thing happens sometimes with keyboards ect

it wont prove anything testing it in another pc,you need to try with a different gpu in your pc
