Default Gigabyte P55-UD5 and 2nd graphics card fan spinning when computer powered down

    Hi there,
I have a P55 UD5 SLI board set up with a watercooled GTX470 in the main PCIE slot and a GTX 260 (stock air cooling) in the 2nd PCIE slot. All works fine in windows. But when the computer is powered down (ie shutdown not standby) the fan on the GTX260 keeps spinning all the time at a low speed.

Anyone know why it would do this or how to stop it spinning? Maybe a bios option for the power settings?

What OS are you using, and are you sure you are pushing Shut down not sleep/standby?

Windows 7 64bit and I'm shutting down not putting into standby.

Instant off is selected in the bios. Still no solution so far unfortunately. Apart from powering the whole thing off at the socket of course.

I just thought of this sorry, but I think some cards automatically spin after shutdown for longer periods to cool the cards.

Does it happen forever, or just for some time then quits? If it happens forever, then can you please test each card one at a time in that slot, then both again but switched, to see if you notice if it's always the same card or always the same slot, ect.

    PME wakeup didnt work.

Fans still spinning. Ive also noticed that any case fan coming from the board (except the CPU fan header) is still spinning when the computer is powered down. Just at a low speed. Very annoying, since I have another SSD detection problem that occurs whenever I switch the thing off at the wall so kinda have to leave the thing with power connected or it causes more problems.

you need to check nothings earthing on the case, seems weird that they carry on spinning, they might do if components are still hot and shut off when its dropped below a certain temp, how long have you waited after powering down?

It really sounds to me like this is sleep/hybernate mode somehow. The fans on the board should not be spinning for sure!

Please clear your CMOS and update to the latest BIOS if you are not already on it, then load optimized and reboot back to the BIOS.

Once in the BIOS set your SATA/Disk settings, and all other changes you need to make, then this time also disable sleep in the power section of the BIOS.

Then go into windows and shut down using the following command from an adminstrator command prompt.

    Code:
    shutdown -s -f -t 00
Then see if the same things still happen, if not, then go to windows again and see if shutting down normally using the start menu works correctly or not.

If all seems good after this, then go back into the BIOS and enable sleep again and then test the command prompt shut down again, then start menu, and see if both are still working properly.

    Hey guys,
I tried shutdown -s -f -t 00 and it had no effect. Fans still spin.

Bios version is F10, I checked for a turn off sleep option but couldnt find it specifically. So I turned off everything I could in the power options tab of the bios and still the fans spin.

Appreciate all the suggestions so far, but it's still proving to be a headache.
