That's great info, thanks. I'll keep a record of it for next time things go south. :)

lsdmeasap, thanks for the link to the latest BIOS. Do you know if it gives a significant DPC latency decrease over my version? (The latest available from the Gigabyte site - F9J Beta) I think of a BIOS update as a last resort - there's a chance of catastrophic failure - and I'd kick myself if I bricked my MOBO just after making such an important breakthrough.

you wont brick it if you flash with q-flash,dont use @bios,try the newest bios and see if it reduces it,if not you can always flash back to the one you have now

Thanks for the specs. Out of interest, how loud are the fans on the GFX cards? A quiet PC is very important for recording and some graphics cards are really loud. I get ones with no fans, so that lmits my choice a great deal.

Is there a list of hardware which works well with (particular) Gigabyte boards? It'd be useful for this and possibly future builds.
Yes those are from two different motherboards, and other hardware differed as well.

Both of the graphics cards I have are very quiet, but I think the Gigabyte 5870 SOC is the most quiet one.

I'm not sure what all hardware you are asking about working with Gigabyte boards, but I also don't ever have issues with ATI same as Wazza mentioned.

I also agree with his Lite-On DVD approval, I use those and Asus DVD drives without issues. LG DVD drives do have some issues from time to time, so avoid if possible for use on a Gigabyte board.

Never had any issues with WD or Seagate drives, nor any issues with Crucial SSD's

Memory selection, my favorite brands can be found in my signature, no issues with either of those.

I am not sure it has anything done to change DPC, probably not as it was made for overclocking, but you never know some of those changes may have helped latency - so it's worth a shot since this is important to you.

You will be fine flashing as long as you do it safely with Qflash. Do not flash in a storm, and read this guide for how to safely flash and you will be fine
