just n update my rma has been approved by my supplier so i have sent teh ram off ,yesterday, i was searching teh g.skill forums and have noticed that the g.skill tech advise about qpi/vtt values of above 1.4v even up to 1.6v. i was cruising teh corsair forums aswell and have also noticed taht the ram that was mentioned in the other thread has teh same cold boot issues, so it may been compatability of the new rams with this motherboard.

are you getting new ram? if so are you going for the same model hello people got? if its working for him with the same model mb and bios then it should work for you,1.4-1.6v qpi/vtt is way too much voltage, you should only need between 1.2-1.35max at stock cpu clocks and 1600mhz ram speed

    Hi, 1st post here.

Our setup is fairly similar. Thought I'd share what's working for me. Sys specs in sig.

I had tons of problems when I set this rig up a month ago. I was installing Win7 64bit Ultimate on the SSD and getting all kinds of errors. Once I moved the SATA cable from port 6 to 7 everything's been wonderful. Try this on yours sheldo1. If it doesn't help then I think given all of the problems you're getting at start up you may have a PSU issue. It's got enough power but might be defective.

You should also try disabling Turbo Boost.

If you use my bios settings with your timings and still have problems then it's either PSU or ram. I highly recommend the Mushkin dimms I have.

    I hope this helps.

cheers anit77, i had my hdd in slot 1 and dvd drive in slot 2 i have moved my hdd to 6 tho to utilise the 6gb/s transfer but i dont have memory at teh moment so cannot see how it goes

It's ok to link vendors here.

I really try not to recommend brands in the forum, but was just asking in case you did have Mushkin there to see if it would be an option for you or not.

I like and use Mushkin, but that is up to you if you want to try them out or not. They will work for sure, as you can see in my signature I review their kits on Gigabyte boards.

If you would like to try them out and want some suggested kits send me a PM, or check out the ones in my reviews listed in my signature

The primary vendors I have used for ram are Patriot, Crucial & Mushkin. My last two builds have been Mushkin. I specifically got the kit I have for the timings, @ 6,8,6,24,1 they have some of the lowest timings you can find @ 1600.

The ram I have is the same as the kit lsdmeasap reviewed in his sig. The only difference is the heat spreaders. We have both listed the part numbers for them. Mushkin also has a new line called Radioactive the part number is 998958. Again the only difference in any of these kits is the heat spreaders.

Have you tried my bios settings with your ram timings? I have found this to be rock solid stable. Ram running at 1600 and cpu at 3.4Ghz. If you set it up this way and run memtest 1 stick at a time you should be isolate your problem. If all of the sticks pass individually and as a kit then I would look at your PSU. OCCT has a very good PSU test.

Also I don't know what your timings are set at now but your sig says 8-8-8-24-1 and G.skill lists the CR at 2.

Another thing I noticed is in your post #24 I see the Uncore multiplier is set to 24 or 3200MHz. You want the Uncore multiplier to be twice the memory plus 1. In your case that would be 25, not the 24 it is set at. With a BCLK of 200, a Mem multi of 8 & Uncore of 17 you achieve the same. If you don't want to change your BCLK from 133 then just change the Uncore to 25 for 3400MHz.

    Hello, sheldo1. How are you?

I have a couple of observations. I, too, am having some problems with my motherboard with memory corruption. Yet, I am almost certain that the problem is not hardware-related. Rather, I think there is some sort of issue related to the AUTO voltage function on this board that causes trouble for me when I boot from off state. And yet I would not exactly say that there is a fault with the BIOS, either.

    Here are my observations.

    1. If you are going to fill three RAM banks on this board, then go ahead and use 1T rate. It will be faster. Plus, it would be highly unusual for 3 sticks and 1T to cause instability on an X58.

    2. (2x+1):x UNCORE: memory will not always work. I have all 6 memory slots filled. And on my system, only 2x:x properly booted. But there is a good chance it will work on your system.

    3. My intuition is that your RAM was never the problem. And if your new set of RAM fails to fix your problem, then I think we can confirm that the problem was never the RAM. It would be highly unusual to replace a bad set of new RAM for another bad set of new RAM of a different brand. OCZ, GSkill, Mushkin, and Corsair are all good brands.

There are other potential reasons why you may be having the problems you are having. The 2 immediate things I noticed about your present situation are these. Memory corruption, dead cpu core, and unusually high Vs makes me think that your cpu cooler has not been properly installed. Before you do anything else, I highly recommend that you disassemble your cpu and cooler from your motherboard. Safely clean your cpu and cooler of thermal paste. Use this:

arctic clean thermal cleaner items - Get great deals on Computers Networking items on eBay.com!

    Then carefully reassemble.

You also likely need to reinstall Windows. Memory corruption from earlier testing may be the cause of your BSOD. Your harddrive is likely undamaged. Just reboot with your windows disk. Follow instructions and make sure you click the format harddrive option.

Also, do note. When you load optimized defaults in your BIOS, revision FB, you reset everything. This means that if you installed Windows using AHCI, then a reset will return BIOS option to IDE. This will unavoidably cause problems when attempting to enter the Windows environment. In the future, do not use load optimized default settings. Instead, write down what you change--on a piece of paper. Refer to these notes to return to initial settings.

Furthermore, whenever you feel uneasy about the possibility of memory corruption, first test your system with MEM86.

I am having an issue with the AUTO voltage function when I start my overclocked computer from off state. There is always a long beep moments AFTER the Gigabyte logo screen appears. I associate this long beep with some sort of AUTO change, although I have no proof of this. But I will not hijack your thread with my concern; I will start my own thread. I hope things work out well for you.

    :)
