    Oh, there is another thing. I would suggest not to turn your computer off immediately after running a stress test. I do not know why, but doing so, once, did not lead to a happy outcome for me. :(

    Instead, let your system cooling cool down your system a bit first. Restarting your pc would be fine if you use fans as a reboot will not turn the fans off.

    This may or may not make a difference. Sorry about offering this completely unverified suggestion. :p

    sheldo1, ROSESTEEL could be right on with the seating of your cooler. I thought about that yesterday but since you didn't mention anything about weird temps I disregarded it. You never said if you were monitoring your temps or not and I just assume you are. If you're not you need to.

    I use RealTemp & Everest to monitor temps. The nice thing about RealTemp is it records the hi & lo temps in the window. Very useful when running prime or any other test that are run when you are AFK.

    Temps can read close to normal if the cooler is only partially effective. It may be the case that the thermal paste has been applied in such a way that an area above your dead core may not be properly transferring heat to the cooler. Also, can you confirm that one of the cpu cores has completely died? o.0;

    Regardless, I think you should take your computer apart. Remember to cover your motherboard's cpu socket, to look out for debris in the socket and between the cooler and cpu, and to make sure that cleaning fluid does not contaminate the gold contacts on the cpu or touch sensitive areas on the motherboard. I would remove the cpu from the motherboard when cleaning the cpu.

    The Arctic Cleaner is terrific. The fluids are pretty runny, but viscous enough that they will not easily run off the sides of surfaces. Use clean coffee filter to wipe because it does not leave pieces of paper on surfaces when it gets wet.

    And do the clean reinstall of Windows. Windows 7 installation is painless and pretty quick on a fast computer. And don't forget to set IDE vs AHCI vs RAID first in BIOS before installing.

    :)

    hi guys thanks for the advice, the systems temps have been fine idles around low 30's on a 2hr prime95 test max temp was a low 60degree, the cooler may not of been installed properly as it was my first attempt and it was abit rough, i will look at buying some cleaning agent and thermal paste with my new memory.

    anit77 i dont have the old memory i have sent it back to the supplier and am awaiting contact about what is to happen, i will try an email them today to see if i can add some things to teh return shipment of ram and change the brand over to either mushkin or corsair.

    i do not think there is an issue with the psu as once the computer 'warmed up' everything was running fine, if there was a psu issue id assumed the gpu's wouldnt work all to well and i didnt see an issue with them.

    TX-2 gets my vote!

    MX-2 is the same type/format of paste, but I think TX-2 gives a few C better temps generally. They are both awesome to use though, spread easy, no setting in time, no conductivity, and clean off in one simple swipe.

    I just got a tube of IC Diamond 7 when I did this build last month. I'd never heard of it but Microcenter had tons of the stuff. I thought what the hell for $5 if I don't like it I'll order some TX-4.

    So far I'm pretty impressed.
