lsdme means easytune will show you all your voltages and what voltages you are actually using, power on values are used at start up,and target are whats actually being used whether its on/in power saving mode ect

you should install it,its handy when you need to check on settings and voltages without restarting pc and going into the bios ect

Good news. I switched to Corsair dominator 1600, and I can succesfully "cold" cold-boot now.

My original problem was very similiar (perhaps identical) to the one reported in this thread.
    - New build w/ x58a-ud3r. In my case, I was using OCZ xtc gold 1600 memory.
    - Immediately noticed that only 4gig was recognized, so upgraded bios to FB.
    - New bios worked, and I had 6gig. All was working well until...
    - Rebooting the next day temporarily resulted in various types of blue screens.
    - After the first blue screen, the computer reboots and is perfectly fine, until...
    - The next day, I cold boot again, and I get a bluescreen.

In other words, the computer was very unstable when cold-booting after an extended period (several hours) of being turned off. I tried tweaking voltages and settings each night, and each morning I got the same result - blue screen. 100% bluescreens for 8 out of 8 mornings.

I swapped out my memory to Corsair, TR3X6G1600C8D.
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Memory Upgrades - Guaranteed Compatible Memory for your Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R from Corsair

After swapping the memory, I have now had 2 out of 2 succesful morning cold-boots.

It wasn't perfectly smooth though. When I configured the Corsair, I first tried using the XMP "profile 1", and it gave me consistent 0x0124 BSOD (which apparently indicates a bad qpi/vtt voltage).
After keeping the XMP profile active, but raising the qpi/vtt voltage to 1.34 (from 1.2), it is running smoothly now.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and assistance. This thread was very helpful.

Good to hear...I have since done a complete reinstall onto a smaller 500g HD...running like a Swiss clock. Knock on wood.

Does anyone know if there are any special procedures for adding more ram? I am thinking about going from 6 to 12gig. Would it be smart to buy the exact same model ram? Can you do that? Or should you buy 12gig of ram in the same packet, if you know what I mean? Can you successfully increase ram after initially installing 6gig?

yes you can buy another 6gb kit and add it to the system and it should work. Make sure you buy the same exact kit. Now I say It should work it may not. It is always suggested if you want more ram you buy the Total amount you want in one kit. You want 12gb ram buy a 12gb kit. as they are test and passed to work all together.

Increasing the amount of ram is gonna put a lot more stress on the system and you will have to increasing qpi/vtt voltage a lot to get stable and running at its rated speed. You may be limited on running ram at 1333 or 1600 if you can get it that high. Forget about trying to run them at 1800+

Ya 6GB is best, if you do not specifically have to have or absolutely need 12GB

I've just bought the same CAS8 Corsair Dominator RAM and cold booted once all OK - used XMP Profile 1 and all voltages set to Auto

I ran IntelBurnTest on Maximum RAM for 5 times and it failed on the 5th so I've upped the QPI/VTT a bit and will re-run the tests.

BIG BIG THUMBS UP TO THE CORSAIR CAS8 RAM

This RAM seems a lot more stable than my OCZ 2000Mhz Gold Series - off to eBay they go .... Those sticks should have a health warning on them.

Next plan is to work my way through this:

3 Step Overclocking Guide – Bloomfield and Gulftown | TechREACTION

I'd also like to check out BIOS FC3 - only problem is that I'm running OSX on this machine as well as Win 7 and there is a part of the trickery to get OSX working depends on the BIOS version so I need to wait for the official BIOS releases but hopefully official FC won't be far away !!!

Yeah - could do but I know it passes on over 9 hours Memtest and 18 hours Prime95 (blended) on a warm boot (not 1st after being off for 12 + hours).

I think it's a compatibility issue and also the fact that we are only on official BIOS v2 (FB) and when I look at older boards, P55 etc, they are on BIOS v10.

I just couldn't wait for 10 BIOS versions to support the RAM - spending far far far too long trying to get it working. I'd rather spend the time getting a stable machine and then delve into the world of OC to stretch the machine a bit.

Last night I ran Memtest from a cold boot (machine off for over 24 hours) and left Memtest running for 11 hours

    11 passes - no errors

That's with XMP and everything else on auto but with a little extra QPI/VTT as the RAM needs 1.65v.

If people need a BIOS template for my settings then let me know.

When I get time to start OC-ing then I'll make sure that I start using specific voltages or normal rather than auto.

But right now just happy that I've got that OCZ ram out of the machine and it's working a treat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would recommend this model of Corsair RAM to anyone with a GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2 board and I'm on BIOS FB.
