    Unhappy GA-H55N-USB3 Help

Hi guys I am new around here and saw that you have great support for the boards, and I wanted to ask some questions as I am having some issues with this board. I am trying to overclock the cpu to at least 3.8 or maybe 4GHz. My specs are:

    mobo: ga-h55n-usb3
    processor: Intel i5 760
    rams: 4GB, (2x2GB Corsair XMS3 1600 9-9-9-24)

I have tried to overclock with multipliers 21x181 and using:
    LLC: Enabled
    Vcore: 1.13750
    QPI/Vtt; 1.210
    DRAM: 1.660

I have set the timings for the RAM as per the ram specs, and set the SPD to 8.
All the advanced CPU settings are disabled except the cores which is set to ALL

The problem I have is that when the system boots to windows 7 and the pc is idle and not in use, the screen freezes and the only way to restart is to take the power cable out. The freezing is not present if the system is put under load, like stress testing the CPU or the playing a game. Only when idle which is very weird. I have tried different Ram sticks and different voltages for the CPU, but no luck, it always freezes after couple of minutes being idle.
If anyone knows some info on what might be causing this issues please give me your suggestions. Ill provide additional info if needed.

    Thanks all

do you have c1e enabled in advanced cpu features? if so it will throttle the cpu speed and voltage when idle,it could be unstable when it does this, look in Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options and select high performance but remember the cpu wont throttle down when you select this it will run at full 3.8ghz and 1.13750v,

if you can play around with cpu voltage and keep c1e disabled but use balanced in Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options then you should be able to make it work so that it throttles when idle and full power at load and still remain stable,i know it works for me,try selecting normal for cpu voltage and see what voltage it sets cpu at,then you can add extra voltage so its only applied when cpu is at load through dvid by using +0.0xxx amount, but makesure you fully understand this method and how it works as its a more complicated way of oc'ing the cpu

Thanks alot for your quick reply wazza.
Yes I have everything disabled in the Advanced CPU tab in the BIOS, including the c1e, the only thing i left default is the Cores options which is set to 'ALL'

I have put the power options to High performance just now and it froze again after a minute or so.

I dont mind the high voltage as the temps are good so no problems there, even when i stress test it the temps are around the 60C mark :). Ill try the dvid option and see what happens.

Do you have from top of your head any recommended voltages and multipliers I should try in the BIOS? I find it very weird that its freezing, iam using the same CPU on another gigabyte board p55a ud3p, and it works fine on even higher settings. Thanks again

well i would use balanced profile, set cpu voltage to normal setting, disable llc you shouldnt really need that for 3.8ghz,i would try a 180x21 i dont know whether thats the highest multi for that chip, enable turbo and all cores enable everything in advanced cpu features except for c1e,set dvid to normal for now and try it,you might need a little more qpi/vtt voltage although those mb's and the p55 boards are different controllers and dont need as much as ex58 plus they dont run tri channel so i wouldnt go much higher maybe one click more

looking at cpu voltage it looks a little low to me idk,but try with normal for now and add extra voltage through dvid later if its still unstable, just tell me what voltage normal sets the cpu to and ill tell you what dvid to try

Ok, i have reset the BIOS and will try your suggestions, and see what happens :)
The default normal vcore of the CPU is 1.18125v
Thanks alot for the great support, much appreciated :)

ok with 1.18125 you might be ok with just leaving it on normal and dvid on normal too,if it still freezes then try with normal cpu voltage and dvid of +0.0100v

so 1.18125+dvid of 0.0100v= cpu voltage of 1.19125v only at load you can try and lower it if stable or raise if needed ect

Ok just an update, i have used the dvid voltage, and made it stable so far no crashes. Now ill just go from there to find the needed voltage for the system while on load by increasing by bit if needed, as i got BSOD with 124 error which says i need more vcore :), So ill test it these days and over the weekend and see how it goes.
I cant express how grateful I am to you Wazza, thank you so much for you quick responses, much appreciated

124 BSOD is QPI/Vtt not vcore usually

BSOD Error codes and what they mean:
0X00000050 << Incorrect Memory Timing/Freq or Uncore Multi
    0X00000124 << Incorrect QPI/Vtt Voltage (To Much/Not Enough)
0X00000101 << Not enough Vcore Voltage
0X00000109 << Not enough or too Much memory voltage

Just wanted to thank you very much for the help, I have managed to overclock it and make it stable even after long gaming hours on the weekend. Thanks to all for the help, and thanks for the BSOD error legend, it helped alot

Nice to hear you got things stabilized!!

So what was causing the issues?

Post back anytime if you need more help with anything.
