    Default GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 Help

    So here is a link to the actual board.GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1156 - GA-P55A-UD3 (rev. 2.0)

I have a question more than a help request. I do not own the board yet but looking to solve some future problems that I have.I am going to a i5 setup and I am buying a motherboard that is prepared for the SATA3 generation of drives coming out next year. The problem is with no 400mb+ drives out atm is the SATA3 ports actually going to be able to handle it on this motherboard or will I need to get a x4 card later down the road?
If I must get a x4 card will using it in the 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4) effect the bandwidth on the GPU slot?

If so would it be a better idea just to wait 3-4 months and buy the next generation boards? Thank you.

i cant be 100% sure on this so maybe someone will correct me if im wrong,i think if you have usb3 or sata3 turbo enabled the 16x gpu will be reduced to 8x,and if you have sli/xfire with 2 gpus both run at 8x and the 3rd pci-e runs at 4x

sata3 ports will handle it,you wont notice any performance lost in 8x gpu lane speed, you can either wait for new mb's which may still use the same way of robbing bandwidth from pci-e slots or plump for an ex58 platform where nothing gets reduced

i think it just draws bandwidth from the pci-e lanes, nothing gets reduced from the sata3 ports

Thanks for the answer. I was afraid of that...not sure why they even brought it out if that was their solution. By they I mean ASUS/Gigabyte/MSI etc. Seems like all the motherboards do this and sites like Newegg fail to put that info up :P

    Thanks again.

you wont see any performance loss, but if you can wait i would and see what comes out next year,ex58 mb's will drop in price too when the newer stuff comes out

I think it works like this.... 1 gpu at 16x you get sata3 and usb3... 2 gpus will go from 16x-16x to 8x -8x if sata3 and usb3 are enabled.

Once Intel puts native support for sata3 and usb3 I dont think this will be a problem any more.

It's the same as the UD4. With a single GPU and Turbo SATA/USB OFF you get 16x to the GPU. Enable Turbo mode and you get 8x lanes to the GPU. Use Crossfire or SLI and you get 8x lanes to each slot and Turbo SATA/USB is automatically disabled and locked. This means you can't use SATA3 or USB3 to their fullest with a SLI/Crossfire setup. Having a single GPU and using turbo is fine though, the slot still backs off to 8x but there is no difference until you start playing around with multi monitor setups.

I am curious are there any single x16 GPU slot that SATA3 wont revert to x8 when enabled? Also honestly is it worth waiting for native SATA3 support? Will these boards actually be able to handle a 500mb SATA3 drive when they come out?

1155 is Sandy correct? If so I will probably pass on that line and go with the next AMD chip if I do wait. The whole "pay to overclock" thing I want to have it tank badly if possible so wont support it. With luck it does and we wont have this problem again or AMD will do it too and we will be screwed :)
I mean I understand Intel's point of view but we take all the risks on ourselves with no warranty etc....id say we pay for the risk and shouldn't be charged to do it unless they plan to honor the warranties on them.

I am curious though are there any AMD boards/sockets that would handle SATA3 since my only option is x58 or 1155 with Intel?
