    I dont know what fsb setting etc he was using on the 8400, then again memory comparisons at hi speed between c2d and c2q arent allways usefull.
    Just by the headings he seemed to get approx the same speeds as yourself ,different timings maybe.

    to get pl 6 all you have to do is enter that figure in bios.Its unlikely to boot tho:0

    Too many questions, but they're good ones:

    G.Skill DDR2 PC9600 5-5-5-15 versus your PC9600 6-6-6-18 worth the difference?
    NO, unless you're primary goal is to have the highest possible synthetic benchmark scores.
    If you run intensive games or programs, you'll find little difference in performance in most "real world" tests between ultra high memory speeds with looser timings and lower memory speeds with tighter timings. In most cases, the following setups will have virtually the same overall performance:
    ~ 850MHz, 4-4-4-12
    ~ 1066MHz, 5-5-5-15
    ~ 1200MHz, with cas5 or cas6 settings
    If you think a 1 - 3 FPS improvement when you're already running at 40+ FPS is important, then it might be money well spent.
    My overclocking goal is to find the best overall system performance where the sweet spot is the best balance between cpu speed, memory speed, and temperatures. Some decide to save and run with several saved bios profiles; everyday use, gaming, encoding, benchmarking, etc.

    Some systems can run with the 2.40B memory multiplier with FSB at or above 500MHz. Most can't.
    Several forum members report better system performance when using the 2.00D memory multiplier with FSB higher than ~ 470MHz. With the P45 systems, the 2.00B usually requires tRD to be 1 step higher (looser) than 2.00D at these speeds.

    Performance Enhance = Standard versus Turbo
    The Turbo (or Extreme) setting sets tighter memory that can lead to instability.
    My preference is to use the Standard setting and to manually tweak primary and advanced memory timings along with Static tRead Value (aka tRD or PL, Performance level).

    1200MHz using 5-5-5-15, PL = 6 and only with 1.81v.
    Hey, no problem for your P45 as long as you're using FSB = 300MHz and 4.0 memory multiplier.
    Using FSB = 360MHz and 3.33 multiplier should also allow PL = 6.

    Your bios settings versus what you see others using.
    Even with identical hardware, there will be differences between what settings are needed for each system. One system might overclock significantly higher. All P45 systems are not created equal, some are more equal than others.

    What setting are you using for Driving Strength for each memory channel?
    With your current memory speeds, OC-1200 or OC-1333 might help with stability.
    I usually set Driving Strength 1 step higher than my memory speed, e.g. at 984MHz my D/S setting is 1066 for each memory channel.

    MaxxMem2: I find that its benchmark scores often vary several hundred MB/s between runs. Everest memory benchmarks generate much more consistent numbers.

    Great details advice, prof jim!! thx alot :) thats i'm waiting for hehehe ...
    yup i found unstable using tight timing 5-5-5-15 sometimes test IBT it works then using gaming daily suddenly BSOD and it shows 0x000000050 or sometimes 0x000001E yup its ram error right? my first goal is to find stable system prof jim, so if i keep find instability with CAS5 then i will use CAS6 since the difference is not much... btw if u guys wanna see SS in The Unordinary Community just use my id : neoroy pass : iketay hehe its ok dont worry ^_^
    Prof jim, i use driver strength auto ... ok for now i will use it 1 step higher than myram setting like u said.
    So PL 6 is for FSB 300 hehe i see... more FSB than PL will looser, right prof jim?

    Ok then i will use standard for ram performance then use Tread value/PL to 8, right prof jim? it shows 8 at my current setting (using standard ram performance setting), but how to set Advanced Timing Control? it shows default value in left side are 4-4-8-68-4 how to set value in right side? is it auto or 3-3-6-52-3 for tight timing? or only TRFC i should change to 52-60??

    Btw guys i'm interesting to upgrade mysystem to i5 760 because price for ram ddr3 Gskill trident 4G is more cheaper than ddr2 Gskill trident 4G .... but many of my friends told me that performance Q9550 and i5 750 or 760 is the same maybe abit faster i5, unless i upgrade to i7 ... true of false? ^_^

    Its a bit of a minefield
    I was considering AGAIN going for 1200/1300 memory but i dont think there is any way to exceed the quad 775 bandwidth/latency figures on air cooling not by much at least.

    The figures are a good way of determining the max stable overclock between different 775 systems
    whether its everest ,maxxmem or wotever.

    Its like pro J says its the relationship between cpu speed /fsb speed and memory performance.
    Not so much memory speed but what timings/pl the memory will hold at a certain speed.

    460-500 cpu ref seems to be the good area for us with 480-490 being a sweet spot.

    For U now:
    If you did drop to a x8 multiplier AND went up to 495 cpu ref AND could keep reasonable memory timings on 2.4 mem multiplier you might get a bit more performance overall,but might not.
    cpu speed would drop slightly but you would gain on fsb and memory speed.
    Naturally if you could keep the x8.5 multiplier on cpu it would be better.

    For me if I had 8.5 max instead of 8x cpu multiplier ,I could go 471 fsb but then I would be down at 940 memory speed and I would be out of the "good area" for me.

    My ideal speed would be 492 cpu ref,the same as pro Jims up there ,but I just like to be able to run my cpu at 4ghz even tho i do have to pump up the volts a lot just for 64mhz cpu speed .

    ddr2 vs ddr3.
    For us doesnt make much difference as long as we can reach the chipset boundaries.
    We of course cant use it in our ddr2 boards but as long as the memory we have doesnt go bad we wont have to cry about how ddr3 is cheaper than ddr2 now.

    Going for trident ddr2 to replace your present memory(if you can find it)
    I wouldnt bother it wont make that much difference,unless you can get it for like $20extra after selling your own.

    Total upgrade to i5 yeh if you have the spare cash and can sell your own system parts.
    Better do it right now tho while your own expensive gear is still worth something.

    Upgrade to x58 and i7 950 and triple channel,same thing if you can afford it.

    I think I would only go for the x58 just on the principle that if im getting ddr3 memory i might as well be able to use it triple channel.

    Any upgrade you get you will have to overclock(naturally) otherwise your system right now would be better than a standard 920.

    Actually take a look at this,its a bookmark ive had for a long time.It gives some memory theory results,and yes it features my own memory.

    As u say reviews on your memory are hard to find but your 1250(6) and 1130(5) figures seem about right.
    Hah check the memory cost too mine was actually cheaper than that but sheet happens.

    Mmm i still wanna hold a little while prof jim ... i wanna play more with my Q9550 ^_^ so many experiments i havenot done yet .... maybe next year i will upgrade total of my rig.

    @Kick, thx for the link, i'm still downloading it and later read it :) nice info .... btw now my rig stable for few days running 1130mhz 5-5-5-15 vdimm 1.9v PL8 and using driving strength profile 1 step higher than my setting and i think it works ... before that i usually use auto on driving strength profile.
    And also VTT now i use 1.32v with vcore 1.35v for 4ghz FSB 471, MCH 1.26v with MCH ref added 1 step higher than adjust it..... before that i also held down VTT to 1.3v after increasing to 1.32v system much more stable.

    Just finished little test FSB 495 (4.20ghz) with ram 1180mhz 6-6-6-18 1.9v, here SS :

    FSB 500 is really hot to me, tried IBT with vcore 1.45v temp max increased to 82c ... so beyond FSB 500 i think i should use stressing program OCCT, since it doesnt make more heat than IBT.

    But i have spotted weird ram setting, in FSB 500 4.25ghz i set ram to 1200mhz, latch 333mhz, 2.40B, and when using 5-5-5-15 for channel B : i saw Tread value was 9 at default (left value) but channel A showed Tread value was 8 at default (left value) .... how come both channel showed different value at default??? when i change to 6-6-6-18 then both channel showed same normal Tread value which was 9 at left value.... maybe this cause instablilty for FSB 500 on my procie.

    Mmm there was abit weird... when i set to CAS5, Tread value or PL in left value is 9 at channel B but channel A shows correct value (8).

    2.40 x 495 = 1188MHz. Okay, picky, picky, picky.

    I've never seen tRD = 8 with FSB = 495MHz with the B-strap, tRD = 9 with the D-strap, yes. Usually with the B-strap, trd = 10 is needed.
    Are you performing additional extended Prime95 or OCCT stress testing?
    IBT or LinX are good quick and dirty stress tests, but many times Prime95/OCCT tests will generate errors, often only after they've been running for 6 - 10 hours or longer.
    tRFC = 60 or higher might be needed for stability at 1200MHz speeds with your memory.

    If you're not doing extended Prime95/Occt stress testing, then I'm only going to do 1 minute Furmark/Afterburner testing for my "stable" graphics card overclocks.

    ** edit** In another thread, Lsdmeasap said that he uses HCI Memtest in windows for his rigorous stress testing instead of Prime95 or OCCT.

    Yup it was only quick test profjim, later i will try mmm prime is to long :( maybe OCCT 3-6hours) or memory test like lsdmeasap said..... hehehe i think it will comes errors sooner ^^ but still i will test it profjim.
