Just got mobo need some advise on overclocking cpu to 4.0
What kind of voltages on mch, cpu
    Memory is patriot 1800mhz(8,8,8,24)ddr3
    H50 Corsair heatsink
    750watt Corsair psu
    Any help would be appreciated

    Id it the GA-EP45T-USB3P?
Load optimized defaults and make any non M.I.T changes needed in BIOS.
Reboot and try the following changes in MIT:
    Code:
    MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
    CPU Clock Ratio ..........................: 8
    Fine CPU Clock Ratio.....................:0.5

    Clock Chip Control
    Standard Clock Control
    CPU Host Clock Control..................: [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ............: 450
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) .........: 100

    DRAM Performance Control
    Performance Enhance...................: [Standard]
    Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.).....: Disabled
    System Memory Multiplier ..............: 3.33D
DRAM Timing Selectable ................: [Manual] <<< can leave auto if XMP profile selected

    Standard Timing Control
    CAS Latency Time........................ 7
    tRCD ......................................... 7
    tRP'........................................... 7
    tRAS.......................................... 21

    CPU
    CPU Vcore….……….........................: default to 1.3625v
    CPU Termination…..... 1.200V*.......: 1.2-1.32v
    CPU PLL…………………....1.500V*.......: 1.57-1.59v

    MCH/ICH
    MCH Core…………….....1.100V...........: 1.2-1.26v

    DRAM
DRAM Voltage ……....1.500V............: according to memory specs

    Advanced Settings
    CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)................: [Disabled]
    CPU EIST Function.........................: [Disabled]
Virtualization Technology................: [Disabled] Enabled if you use Vmware/Virtual PC

    Integrated Peripherals
Legacy USB Storage Detect ..............[Disabled] *Note* Must be enabled to flash from USB
Follow steps 1, 2, and 4 in this post to provide more info about your build.
In case of settings failure please post full BIOS settings using the template in this post.

    Mobo is GA-EP45T-usb3
    C2q9650 has a multi of 9 ( 445x9=4.0)
My memory will run cas7 speed when at 1600mhz speed or lower.
Anything above 1600mhz is what is shown on sticks (8-8-8-24 / 2.0volt)to 1800mhz speed.
Right now running 1700mhz linked and synced with cpu and everything is good (3.8 oc )
Only using 2x2gig mem sticks, just wanted to make sure on mch and ich voltages.

This board is crossfire capable using 8x8, anything comparable to use in crossfire other than my 1 evga 280gtx sc ?

    voltages you are concerned about
mch. I run 1.35-1.4v anything above 1.3 i would recommend an MCH fan or a 120 mm fan blowing on mch and memory .
anything below cpu ref of 450 I can get away with 1.24V(maximum intel recommended voltage apparently) . Anything over 480cpu ref I need 1.3v ,for 500 cpu ref i need 1.4v but that may be due to my memory.

More generally Core 2 quads seem to be able to run at or maybe slightly above 4.0ghz with an 8 or above multiplier on the ep-45 ud3 boards.
like you on 445x9,me on 500x8, neoroy on 471 x8.5.
There is less interest in them now, especially since the i7 950 cpu price was halved but still a few around

    differences being
I have to run a very high MCH, but ive been doing that for awhile so I dont mind.

Now that ddr3 is no longer selling for prices like it was made out of solid gold, actually cheaper than ddr2 atm:
For us(775 cpu people) because the memory controller is off the cpu we are still constrained by the fsb and the mch as an interface between the memory and the cpu.

I dont think it makes much difference in performance terms whether were using 4gb of ddr2 or 4gb of ddr3.
The sticks are only going to be working in dual channel mode anyway.
I would like to know for sure tho if anyone using a 35 or 45 chipset is able to break say 11gb/s bandwidth on the memory with a reasonable below 70ns latency.(aircooled)

Another thing is the voltage limitation on ddr3 . How much of that is due to the fact that intel dont want voltages in excess of 1.65 being fed to the on cpu memory controller, the i series cpus I mean, that limitation wouldnt affect 775 cpu owners.

You have to a certain extent answered that with 2.0V on your memory.
