Default usb headphone mic won't work with Realtek sound on MA770T-UD3P mobo

Hi folks. I couldn't find this issue when I searched, so I'm posting here.

I'm using Windows 7. I bought USB headphones with mic, but I can't get the Realtek integrated sound to set up the mic. It allows me to set the mic (USB VoIP device) as default recording device, but the "configure" button throws me into the W7 Speech Recognition Mic setup panel, which automatically points to "RealTek Digital Input" which is associated with all the HD audio jacks.

Is there any way to somehow subvert the Realtec software and use the W7 mic drivers? The headphones manufacturer (Polaroid) tech support says they plug them into W7 and it finds the mic right away.

    Thanks for reading this far.

Thank you! It absolutely does show up there. When you select the mic in the window you have pictured there, it shows up as "Microphone - VoIP USB device." When I hit the Configure button, it drops me into Microsoft Speech Recognition, and in the "Set Up Microphone" dialogue, that is where I can only set up Realtek HD Audio Input device (which is not the USB mic). And when I talk into the mic in the dialogue, I keep getting the answer "The computer did not hear anything."

So it seems as if Realtek is not pointing the Speech Recog Mic Setup to my USB mic, if that makes any sense.

I have no idea how to go about removing the Realtek drivers -- do I want to remove all of them or do I just want to remove the driver I see when I click the Properties button on the microphone and then hit Properties on the resulting dialogue box and uninstall the VoIP Mic drivers only?

    Thanks so much!

Which configure button do you mean?
What is exactly that you are trying to do?

try and install the realtek drivers again, then it will ask if you want to uninstall click yes and then reboot, wait till windows loads its own drivers then see if you have anyluck setting the mic up,if not try installing the realtek drivers again

or look in Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and see if the realtek drivers show up there so you can remove them

    Hi, Chike and thanks.

Here's the problem. I bought a USB headset and mic. I plugged it in. The mic obviously didn't work when I talk into it. It didn't work on Start/Accessories/Sound Recorder, as evidenced by the complete lack of response on the green/yellow/red level bar when recording and the silence on playback. (The unit works fine on my kid's Xbox for chatting.) So I guessed that I had to configure it somehow. What I am trying to do is get the mic to actually pick up sound when I talk into it. So far, it doesn't. It's not plug and play.

The other headset w/mic that I replaced with this USB thing worked fine and was completely plug and play. I didn't have to screw around with calibrating or configuring the mic. This one, I plugged it in and the headphones magically worked but the mic will not.

I right-click on the little speaker icon in the taskbar and it brings up the little menu "Open volume mixer, playback devices, recording devices" options. So I click on Recording devices and I get the window that wazza300 has pictured.

My mic is highlighted in light blue.

It has Configure and Properties buttons, and is the default device, but it doesn't function. (Note: the mute button on the headset controls is NOT pressed.)

Whenever I launch what used to be the "calibrate mic" feature in XP, which in W7 apparently is now Speech Recognition, the microphone there is automatically defaulting to Realtek Digital Input -- that is the item 2 lines above the mic in my picture. When I look in the Sound Recording tab, Realtek Digital Input is coming from rear panel optical and RCA jacks.

I hope that is more clear. I suspect there is something I have to do to tell W7 to stop expecting mic input from the Realtek Digital Input jacks, but I don't know how to do that.

Hope I haven't confused you further.

Thank you - sorry for the stupid question, but where do these Realtek drivers live? I have no disc or anything from Realtek in the box that came with the computer and I'm worried that I'll uninstall them and then not be able to find them should I want to reinstall them.

    thanks!

try these drivers all mb drivers can be found here and on gigabytes website,
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ity-tools.html

    http://www.station-drivers.com/telec...ivers.com).exe xp

    http://www.station-drivers.com/telec...ivers.com).exe vista/win7

i have to say that win7 is terrible for sound options though the actual sound quality is far better than xp,xp has easier interface and has stereo mix as standard

Huh I could have sworn I replied to this, ah well, senior moments abound...

I can't find any voice default options, but mic is definitely set to the audio default.
