the uncore freq is limited or locked out in adjustment on the p55 mb's,its just the way its designed

    Haha, yes, stupid me!

I always forget that! I still do it when I'm in a P55 BIOS too, always trying to raise the uncore (And I hate that it's locked because it limits many things for P55)

Back after a while, i tried to use 166 BCLK and x8 Ram multi to get the rated speed 1333mhz using the same settings i use now : turbo on, vcore 1.30625 (-0.00250 on DVDID) qpi/vtt 1.21.
I booted ran Prime95 on 4 cores resulting to 3.48ghz and all seemed fine and the temps where the same. When i switched 2 workers off to see the Turbo mode the PC BSODed. I restarted went into bios and only changed the DVDID to +0.00000v. When i ran prime95 again on 2 cores it seems stable and the voltage used was 1.280v. The temps are a non-issue both settings 160 or 166 the temps don't go above 52C. So i am wondering performance vs efficiency is it worth to up the BCLK to 166?

Nice to see you found a stable spot!

You'll have to test both ways and see which you prefer :)

Nah, i wouldn't call it a stable spot i am not pushing as far as i wanted. I guess i have to blame the CPU, my VID is pretty high at 1.30625v. Anyway i sticked with 160 BCLK and used x10 multi and overclocked the ram to 1600 with CL8 instead of 1333 CL7. That way i can still use DVID -0.02500 and get lower volts on the core about 1.26 - 1.28. I know that is still high for that OC even with turbo on but i guess i can't go lower because of the binning of my CPU. What frustrates me is that i cannot say i have overclocked with stock volts and there goes efficiency out of the window. I would be happy if i could run this OC on 1.2v which is closer to most of CPU's out there. I have been on this process of fine tuning about a month and still not happy with the results. I have to choose with high OC an 1.3v (which seems "stock" for me ) that gave me about 4ghz or tone it down to 3,3 w/turbo in order to have a somehow efficient low consuming PC.

Well if you are wanting to push things, DVID and Energy Saving features may be all that's holding you back.

Both of the 1156 CPU's I have need higher than 1.2/1.25 volts for anything, much less a large overclock. Those you see doing 4Ghz at 1.2-1.25ish are golden and not indicative of a large percentage of what's out there, most need 1.3-1.4+ for any reasonable overclock.

With 167 BCLK and turbo on i had to remove the -0.02500v on the Vcore because i got blue screen. The highest i have checked on my stock vcore (1.3) was 167x24 3,98ghz. As you see i want to stick with Turbo boost i like that feauture and i have paid for it. Anyway since i got my ram to run at 1600 i am sticking with 160 BCLK and will keep pushing to find the lowest stable voltage. I am not examining the scenario of a constant OC to all 4 cores i don't do anything CPU stressing except than gaming.

I was just saying maybe trying to use DVID was what may be causing you issues, but since you have tested manual stock Vcore and are not happy with the 4Ghz it gave you I'm not sure what you expect?

160 Bclk is very reasonable anyway since you are trying to conserve things, so I think that's a great place to settle in with it.

It all started when i read an article of the most efficient ovreclock with Turbo on. And 160 was the maximum on stock vcore. And this is where it gets tricky : what exactly is stock vcore? Because it varies. Assuming my stock vcore is 1.3v i could use 167 BCLK and just changing the AUTO Vcore to Normal. I could do that and kick back and enjoy the PC. But i had to test on lower volts reading all other dudes that OC with 1.2v. So i started testing with no OC how low can i go and i ended up using 1.18v for stock clocks 2.67ghz. If i was your average joe guy who has a PC assembled for him now i would have stock vcore 1.3 for stock clocks whereas i could get my hands dirty and use 1.18. So who can answer me what is my stock vcore? Intel says 0.6 - 1.4 somewhere around that is the vcore, well dah that doesn't give many answers right?

Stock clocks is whatever the normal CPU voltage setting uses,or what intel sets it to in the binning process,as long as temps are ok voltage amount is less important, you could try -0.01000v and see if you can lower total CPU voltage?
