What value? The 1.30625v optimal default of the Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Rev. 2.0 motherboard? Intel has a range of certified volts from 0.6v to 1.4v. The motherboard manufacturers are obliged to set a stock voltage within that range.

Anyway good or bad this stock vcore value is way to high for non-overclocked cpus. Wazza are you suggesting to use the DVID as a negative number and going down untill i find a non-stable voltage? You would suggest that against a static Vcore? I will go with what you suggest me to.

Each processor comes with it's Max VID set by Intel, in the range 0.65-1.4v. The range means no processor will have a higher or lower VID.
Make a text dump with CPU-Z and you will see the exact value st by Intel.
GIGABYTE does not decide what voltage to set, the board just read it from the processor and sets it accordingly.

its designed to clock down when idle, both cpu speed and voltages get reduced to save on heat and power, the modern graphic cards do exactly the same thing, when you want to play games or stress the cpu it will switch to full speed and voltages

its just personal choice whether you want to clock this way or just set a constant cpu voltage,i know some folks dont like to use the power saving modes but i have no issues with using it,i find it a good feature

it wont hurt the cpu or mb if you use dvid their both designed to use it,you just have a cpu that uses more voltage than others,it probably wont run as as hot as a cpu that uses less voltage and vice versa,my cpu uses less at stock but runs hot,its just the varying differences through manufacture as in no cpu will be identical regarding what voltages it needs

I am not trying to blame any of both companies here, i am just trying to figure out how to run my pc as smooth as possible. Intel might say 1.3v for stock speeds but as proved it can run way lower. I am trying to find the most respectable way of doing that without damaging my hardware. Wazza please respond, i don't want to go into a debate of how companies are managing their products. Static Vcore 1.1, versus DVID adjustments. Whats the verdict?

EDIT : you responded while i was typing, i get the picture now. No need to reply for this

its up to you, whatever is most stable and runs cpu coolest, performance wont be affected as it will speed up when needed ect,try with both dvid and static voltage and see what you prefer

Review my OC please after finding the minimum stable voltage :

    LLC : Auto, Cpu Vcore : 1.30625v/Normal, DVID : -0.10004v, QPI/Vtt : 1.160v, DRAM Voltage : 1.66v.

BCLK : 167, Ram Multi : x8. Turbo boost disabled, all other CPU Features enabled.

This results into a 3.34Ghz clock speed, while maintaining the 1333mhz ram at CL7. Idles on voltages 0.7 and full load 1.17. With stock cooler the temps don't exceed 65C on Prim95.

    How is this looking?

Sorry for intruding here, but I am a little concerned.

All my advice is optional and I never tell anyone how they MUST set up their own machine etc, so simply take this as me just trying to clear a few things up.

Your CPU stock (default) voltage is indeed set by intel during the binning process. For some reason or another yours is just set ever so slightly higher than some. I'm sure there are others set even higher. My 760 has a default VID of 1.2625V so 1.3V isn't unreasonable.

By all means, set it lower if you want to run stock or mild overclock speeds with less heat, however note that it's possible at some point that you'll run into issues. Intel takes into account max operating temps when setting VIDs for CPU's. This means it will test the chip at or near to its tCaseMax to make sure the CPU will function even in the most adverse conditions. Those of us in the northern hemisphere may have temps much more CPU friendly, but places like Taiwan, Indonesia etc have hellish summers and high humidity. I worked on a PC that had been in an appartment in Taipe for 6 months and a lot of components were actually going rusty, the humidity and ideal rusting temps were eating it alive.

At higher temps, resistance increases meaning that higher voltages are needed. Intel have set 1.3V for your particular CPU so that it will function normally no matter the environment it's placed in. It's an insurance policy on behalf of Intel. They want as little return rate as possible, so this is a completely safe practice. Motherboards simply read this value form the CPU and in no way decide it for themselves unless Auto settings are used and you raise the Bclk.

The over clock you ahve posted in #77 looks OK. You're porrbably better off with RAM at 1333 with CAS7 than trying for 1600 with CAS 9 (maybe 8 if you're lucky).

One more thing. I noticed (or I assume from what you said) you are a gamer. To answer a question you posted a couple of days ago:
How about the real time differences between a 2,6 to 3,2 (w/Turbo boost) and 1333mhz RAM VS a 3.2 to 3,8 with 1600mhz? IF we are talking about 5-10 FPS i'd rather overclock my graphics card for that matter.
That depends entirely on the game you're playing, the resolution you play at, what detail levels you use etc. You could be either CPU bound in some games and GPU bound in others. In CPU bound situations OCing the GPU wil have no effect but OCing the CPU will have a large effect. In GPU bound games the opposite is true and OCing your GPU will give huge gains while a CPU at 3GHz and one at 4GHz will give near identical results.

The key is balance. I run SLI and as such like to have as much CPU power available as possible. However that doesn't always mean I'd get crappy FPS if running stock, as it depends on the game.

I occasionally play World of Warcraft, which is massively CPU limited, even at high resolutions. An over clock from 2.8GHz to 4GHz has netted me a huge performance increase. However in Resident Evil 5, with a single card, there is zero difference when going from ~3.2GHz up. From that one can assum that RE5 is GPU bound. Increasing clocks on my GPU by 200MHz (core clock) confirms this as the frame rate increases by ~15%. Adding another card, also over clocked nets a 90% increase at 3.2GHz on the CPU. Raising to 4GHz does add a little, but only if I start stressing the GPU's more by using 16xQ Anti aliasing, 4x Transparency Super Sampling, High Quality texture filtering etc. Increasing resolution and detail settings shifts the bottleneck from GPU to CPU. Increasing detail also works in very CPU bound games. It doesn't improve FPS but it allows higher IQ at IDENTICAL frame rates (up to a point).

Purely from a gaming perspective, running a res of 1680x1050 or higher with a decent mid end card in MOST games should be pretty smooth with a 3.2-3.4GHz OC. Running something exceprionally CPU heavy like WoW or GTA4 will benefit from all the speed you can wring out of the CPU.

i wasnt sure whether intel decided on cpu voltage or whether the mb chose what to use at stock,i know it varies with each cpu,you can set it to any amount you like as long as it remains stable and doesnt run too hot, ideally below 80c max
