I think you choice for 60gb is right, because it's enough for os drive. From my 120 I'm using about 25 for w7+office+ps-cs5 and many other apps, but I did store some large and seldom referenced stuff on hdd using hardlinks. Don't get me wrong 120 is okay ;) but 60 would have done too. Also over provisioned down to 100GiB os partition leaving like 11gb unused, it seems the ssd likes a bit of extra space to shift around stuff when it's trimming.

With the vertex one thing you have to be aware of is how the sandforce controller works, otherwise the specs could be a bit deceptive, in the sense that writes appear inflated. With random uncompressable data it's more like 80-100mb/s write, and to be fair, most stuff we touch these days already has some sort of compression, like jpg, zips, installers even office'10 docx...

Maybe it's a good idea to first get one and get familiar with it, you can add a second one later. Putting them in raid you will lose trim, but vertex2 have some sort of garbage collection too it seems, so even without trim they should stay optimized.

    edit:
Oh one more thing... intel is comming up with it's 3rd gen ssd shortly, so that maybe worth waiting for atm.
thing is i dont want to spend too much, right now in uk you can get the 60gb ones for around 96(86) when special offer is on,im tempted but i dont know yet,you can tell some new stuff is on the horizon as current ssd prices have dropped but they will be too expensive for me

ive seen atto benchmarks of 550mbs read/write with two 60bg raid0,the revodrive only managed something like 500mb read and 400mb write

Yes, I know that feeling, I saved up when they came out and decided I would get on once the price passed below 200euro... that happened about 8 weeks ago...

My advice would be to get just a single 60gb one, idf you can't resist, and play with it. see if it suits your read/write pattern. It will load/respond faster than any raid even with the lower seqential writes, seq.reads will be quite similar (to r0) and access time like 0.1ms. Random access will also get a very nice boost.
Raid0 with ssd's I'm not too sure about, ofcourse you will gain sequential speed but access time won't get better, and that seems to be the main benefit.

wazza300, get two Vertex2 60gb in RAID O and you will have lots of fun. Prices are getting down so drastically in recent weeks. Or you can get two Vertex2 120gb as well.

Don't wait for the new stuff. They just keep coming and you will end up not buying any

    whoot 4x :D nice setup!!!
so what's your boottime on that 4x array? gained any from single?

and atto, looks impressive, but it does not mirror 24/7 performance, unless you're reading/writing zero's 24/7 ... it's more a measure of how efficient the sf controller can compress that type of data, I feel. Guess with cdm or assd it will be like 350-400 (seq write of random data)?

yes i know that 2 in raid0 achieve mid 500mbs/sec,theres a program in lsdmeasap's review of the crucial c300 that supposed to force trim in raid too,and ive heard ocz are working on a fix to enable it but they dont suffer much due to garbage collection ect,id like just one though to start off with,

can you have one os in raid though and the second os not in a raid? thats what i was wondering on a dual boot pc and im not to up to date on all things raid

Here is a fresh install of Win7 all updates applied thats it.

This is after installing Win7 Manager and manually doing its optimizations and installing Smart6 and enabling OS quick boot. Bios quick boot was enabled on both before and after.

This is with 2 WD Black 750GB in Raid0 128k.

yes sure, you can have xp-vista-w7 with a boot menu on raid0, extra copy of w7 on single hdd and now a 3rd copy of w7 on ssd like me ;) and still change boot sequence between them, either through bios or bootsequence popup.

I bet if you're a boot-guru you'd get it all in one menu too.

24/7 refers to heavy blu-ray / dvd burning (lot of junks left on the SSD without TRIM support, am i correct?) so I think they are still doing ok.
