Bought a new HD locally, WD1002FAEX 1TB, installed it, works great, no hassles, at least not with the drive. Now I'm hung up on a Win 7 install malfunction. Even though I entered a valid key (and have photographs of the screen and key card to prove it), it errors out saying Invalid product key. Unreal. I'm about 33 hours into this build, but at least I have the feeling I'm close to the end. I'm going into the light, the light at the end of the tunnel of MS darkness... which is probably a train... :)

As an aside, I ran memtest86 for 6 full passes, got no errors. I enabled XMP in the BIOS and memory jumped from 599 to 799 mHz, the yellow and green CPU voltage LEDs on the MB came on, but so far no errors. I'm clueless when it comes to overclocking, so I have a lot to learn. Likely since this system's main priority is stability I won't OC much.

FrugalGuy, a little off topic but I have the same motherboard and RAM, but keep getting "Recovering lost DRAM size..." message on boot. Have you come across this with your build?

No, I haven't. I saw your post earlier when I was researching my travails, though. My issues so far seem due to the default BIOS recognizing a USB keyboard but not passing that functionality along to the bootloader that asks "Hit any key to boot from CD" (fixed that) and a semi-DOA hard drive that would accept writes and acknowledge the writes back to the OS, but could not be read; new drive fixed that. Now I'm up against what I think is a bootleg Windows 7 DVD sold to me by Newegg. I had to use a registry hack to fix the "Invalid Product Key" error message, but when I tried to activate it the activation ID number generated by the activation utility is invalid. I spent 40+ minutes on the phone with non-English speaking MS agents in India yesterday, the first one of which hung up on me in the middle of our conversation and the second one of which just gave me another number to call.

I'm about this >||< close to ditching the Windows install, doing a chargeback against Newegg through my credit card holder for the Windows package, and going with a Linux install. I need to research video editing software for Linux. This machine will be used almost exclusively for video editing and won't even get on the internet.

My PC experience is fairly outdated so I'm sorry to say I don't have any advice to offer on your memory problem. If the memory will read OK one stick at a time but not as a trio I'd think the problem was on the MB. I don't know if you can try booting off of just one stick, moving the stick from slot to slot to try and identify a bad slot.
