Default Yet another ga-x58a-ud3r v2.0 recovering lost dram size

Ok let me see if you guys come up with the same conclusion i have. After reading a few posts here i've gone and updated to 3 different bioses *currently running now the latest beta one.

step 1 reseat cpu also check socket for bent pins. i've done this 3 times.

step 2 load the FC bios over the original factory loaded bios.

    still happening

step 3 load the latest beta bios fe1

now something makes me suspect the ram

Bios is showing 4 gigs of ram .. windows reports 6 gigs but only 4 useable.

    the ram:

    3 sticks 2 gig ocz ocz3g1600lv6gk r

slots 1 3 and 5 are populated 4 gigs in bios .. 6 gigs reported in Win 7 4 useable

slots 1 3 populated 2 gigs in bios (din't bother loading into win7

slot 1 populated .. does not boot.

try slot 1 with each stick. still does not boot.

try 2 different sticks in slot 1 and 3 .. 2 gigs reported in bios.

I still get the friggin recovering lost dram size.

I think i may have a slot 1 for my ramstick and the ram is fine.

timings on ram is set to 8/8/8/24 qpi voltage is set to 1.33 (i think i have to endure reboots to doublecheck) and dram voltage 1.64 (i'd have to boot back into bios to double check but would mean another multiple reboots till i can check forum again.

(this was a package deal from an online retailer not naming to avoid any advertising)

    anything easle i can try?

can you post some close up pics of the cpu socket? the whole socket in one pic so folks can look at all the pins?
i know youve checked but if one of the ram slots appears to be dead it can either be the slot itself or a bent cpu socket pin because the memory controller will be inside the cpu itself

I'll have to tear down the entire cpu to get the pictures done (back plate does not allow me to unscrew the nuts holding the coolermaster cpu cooler.

i've poped out the ram sticks and cleaned them and the slots also .. repling back in a few hrs if i can get the pics done.

i'm hoping if i do have to have this board set in there is a way to get one sent to me and then i can send this one back in the packaging *This pc can't be down for very long .. allready caught hell for having this one down long enough to take pics and recheck cleaning / wiring.*

    edit:

the memory timing settings were gotten from OCZ forums to a responce with another user using exact same memory modules and this motherboard.

its a bit hard to see the area where ive marked but the pattern of the pins seem out of place? like a possible bent pin/pins?

im only going off the pics, they might be fine but i would certainly check those areas very carefully, look at an angle so the light reflects off the pins and look for a nice uniformed pattern,if any are out of shape then its no good, you could try and pull them back into place if you try and catch the tip thats sticking up but be carefull not to break any off,if you wanted to rma then gigabyte should repair them

i know its a pain taking things apart but worth it if you find out what it is,the board will run fine in dual channel mode as in take out the ram stick thats not showing up and run on 4gb/dual channel untill after christmas and then you could rma it,or try yourself but be carefull

i tried dual channel setup and it only saw 2 gigs of ram when i did that . and still gave the recovering lost dram size.

i'm guessing one or two of those pins are affecting the 1st socket.

interesting thing to note is 2nd pic of the bios i posted

    dim slot 2 gig - 2 gig - 2 gig
enabled slot - 2 gig 2 gig - ( missing 2 gig here) seems last socket not enabled? but i get same problem with only 2 sticks)
    total memory 4 gig

    2 sticks:

    dim slot 2 gig - 2 gig - -
    enabled slot - 2 gig - - -

    total memory 2 gig

i'm guessing one of those pins are affecting just the way it works with the ram. I've got an advanced rma with the online retailer so i'll have another board onhand to swap out in a few days and send this one back.

btw nice setup watched a few of your vids. once i got this bird running for a few months error free i'll look into overclocking it up.

ive had the same thing on an asus mb,it would see all 6gb but say 6gb installed(4gb)available in windows, looked at cpu socket and there was one single bent pin,i managed to pull it back into place and its been flawless since,so im thinking it has to be a similar problem with your mb,and yh these boards are great even with a mid range gpu like mine they perform great in games even at stock cpu clocks

    good luck with the rma

Update: Just got the RMA board in. no pins bent and perfectly works.

note: in bios screen where you see the inconsistency of the ram spacing (1st picture) now the ram shows:

    2g - 2g - 2g
    2g - 2g - 2g

    6 gigs ram

so yea the bent pins were it.

    Thanks for the advice!
