Post GA-EP45-UD3R - DIMM slot recently FAILED , any suggestions?

Hi, I've been very satisfied with my GA-EP45-UD3R for just over 2 years - until just this past week.

I've been using all four DIMM slots for the past year, just the slot 1 & 3 for the 1st year of owning the board.

This past week I started getting constant BSOD's (win 7 x64 Ent) , I ran the latest version of memTest & whenever memory is inserted in the very slot DIMM slot , I receive constant errors during testing (I can take any of my four DIMMs and whenever one of them is placed either in a combination with others or on its own in slot 1 , errors appear).

So it appears that the 1st slot has experienced some sort of failure - I've never had this problem with another board in the past - I've had DIMMs fail but not the board's slot which seems to be the case with my GA-EP45-UD3R.

I'm more than satisfied with a working GA-EP45-UD3R and my current setup - therefore I'm not up to buying a new board and I'm sure the RMA process would keep me w/o a board for a few weeks - does anyone have any ideas of anything I can do to attempt to remedy the failed 1st DIMM slot situation?

I can't see how changing any BIOS settings could resolve the issue of all DIMMs failing when inserted in the 1st slot but in case there's something that's known with the boards or some troubleshooting in general that I'm not aware of any help would be appreciated. I have cleared the CMOS before I even realized that the 1st DIMM slot was causing memtest (as well as failing with the Win 7 Ent x64 Installation Mem H/W test install option which also fails when a DIMM is used in slot 1).

In the meantime I'm just using slots 2 & 4 in Dual Channel and slot 3 on its own.

    Thanks for reading.

Can't see much more you can do.
Maybe it is worth asking GB if there is way they send you a replecement board before you send them yours.

You should probably setup an RMA, let me know if you need the web page to get that started

Chike - thanks, yes, seems like i have done I can do , kinda of stuck with a bad slot.

Lsdmeasap - hey, i recall your user name as assisting me in Nov '08 when i purchased this board , thanks again. for the RMA - i'm not sure if it would be thru New Egg or Gigabyte directly , so yes a URL would be appreciated to get the process started.

Any idea of how much time this takes on avg (replacement board to be sent after they receive the defective board) ? I'd like to not be w/o my PC for too lengthy of a period if at all possible.

Gigabyte RMA is probably where Lsdme would send you for your RMA.
I'm not sure about the average turn around time, but it will probably take somewhat longer because it's only 1 week after the Xmas rush.

    Good luck.

From Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard, click on the Details tab, then click on Return Policies in the Quick Info panel on the right hand portion of the web page. You'll see that your motherboard has the Standard Return Policy where:
    Standard Return Policy

    * Return for refund within: 30 days
    * Return for replacement within: 30 days
    * Restocking Fee: Yes

This is our Standard Return Policy. Items covered by this policy (those products for which Newegg states "This item may be returned for a replacement or refund within 30 days only") must be returned to Newegg within 30 days of the invoice date for this policy to apply. “Return” constitutes receipt of the product by Newegg, and not the mere issuance of an RMA.
You will need to RMA your mobo to Gigabyte.

The UD3R is no longer listed on the Newegg site and it had the same return policy (30 Days) as my UD3P. A few Newegg motherboards came with a one year Newegg return policy, but most had to be returned within 30 days of purchase.

The standard Gigabyte mobo 3 year warranty is from the date of manufacture, not your purchase date. The date of manufacture is part of the serial number for your mobo.
The following information is from the RMA link in my previous post:
Warranty Effective On Date of Manufacture

GIGABYTE determines warranty based on the manufacture date. The manufacture date can be verified by the serial number found on the product. The first four digits after "SN" determine the year and week of manufacturing date. For example:

    "4719331822101 SN082540084966" represents the 25th week of 2008

Sometimes when the manufacturer date is long before purchase they will still honor the RMA if you provide a purchase reciept.

Turn around time is normally 14-21 days sometimes more or less depending on the issue, where you live in relation to CA, and how busy they are.
