Default Will Cooler Master Gemin II fit the GA-890GPA-UD3H

Edit: The subject above should say Cooler Master Gemin II S.

    Hello All,

I'm in the process of building my first computer. All the components haven't come in yet.

The CPU cooler I ordered (Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus) is too tall for my case.

Can someone tell me if Cooler Master Gemin II S will fit on the GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard? I've read that the memory slots on this board are a little closer to the CPU than is usual.

    Thanks
    Harry

Not sure about this one, have you asked Cooler Master or in their forums, they might know?

Yesterday I found that Cooler Master has a forum. I registered there, but an Administrator has to confirm the registration. When that happens, I will post my question there.

Still, anyone here who has an answer or some thoughts please feel free.

    Thanks

Check out the GeminII 2D drawings at GeminII - Cooler Master - Leading Provider of Computer Case | Cooler | Power Supply near the bottom of the page.
I'm using this cooler in my backup system. It's a decent middle tier cooler, but it's HUGE and hard to access the motherboard once it's installed.

You might want to check out Arctic Cooling Freezer coolers for your AMD setup. With their 92mm fan, it should fit in most cpu cases. My current Freezer Pro is an excellent coller for my E6300 (R0) setup. Be sure to check that your memory won't interfere with the fan cage if you are installing above average height memory in the slots closest to the cpu.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Default Re: Will Cooler Master Gemin II S fit the GA-890GPA-UD3H

Goodness Gracious, I've made a mistake here. I have been referring to the cooler that I am interested in as Cooler Master GeminII, and as GeminII S, not realizing that these are two different models.

The cooler that I am interested in is the Cooler Master GeminII S. Some people refer to it as the Gemini II S.

I have posted this question is three forums thinking that I had an urgent need for a CPU cooler for my first computer build. I had twice read that a Black Edition CPU did not come with a cooler because they were expected to be overclocked and you must provide your own cooler. I have since learned that this is not true and the Phenom II X2 555 BE retail box should come with a cooler. This should be sufficient for me until I try to unlock hidden cores and do a little OC. The RAM that I have ordered, PNY XLR8, is not overly tall but I am also thinking about future RAM upgrades.

And ProfJim, thank you for doing some research for me and the added insights. My apologies for confusing the model numbers. I have looked at the Arctic Cooling coolers that you refered me to, and they look like a good choice also, if the GeminII S does not work.

I had found a website, Overclockers I think, that had tested many, many coolers. The GeminII S was the first one down the list, most cooling power, that would fit in my case. It was also rated as fairly quiet, so that is the one I am interested in. Since it is so low profile there is no problem with it fitting in my case that I can see. I don't think it would interfere with the Northbridge or MOSFET heatsinks, but there is some question about those close memory slots.

I will try to correct the earlier posts to refer to the correct model number.

Still, if someone knows if the Cooler Master GeminII S will fit the GA-890GPA-UD3H, I would appreciate it. I may be in need of a larger cooler in a couple of weeks.

    Thanks folks

    Glad to help out.
On the Cooler Master AM2+/AM2 web page, they refer to the down draft coolers as the GeminII and Geminii S models.

Down draft cpu coolers offer decent cooling for moderate overclocks, but generally don't offer the maximum cooling capacity of the upright tower type coolers. Most tower cpu heatsinks with 120mm fans are about 160mm tall, as measured from the top of the cpu or from the top surface of the motherboard. Tower coolers that use a 92mm fan are about one inch shorter in overall height.

Check out the reviews for cooling efficiency comparisons and possible fitment issues relating to memory slot issues. Contact the O.E.M. tech support people for more information if needed.

Let us know how you make out with your setup.
