    Default Need help overclocking i7 with X58A-UD7

    I've finally received a Gigabyte GTX 580 and now it's time to overclock my system. I want to overclock my system so that the cpu isn't a bottleneck for my 580. Will 3.4GHz be enough? I'm also using this system for surfing so if possible I would like to keep the power saving features. If disabling these features is better for the overclock I will do that.

    I'm not sure what the best option for the Kingston HyperX 2000 CL8 ram is. High MHz or tight timings?

    My goal is a medium overclock. I don't want to spend days or weeks testing for stability.

    CPU = Core i7 930
    Motherboard = GA-X58A-UD7
    Revision = 1.0
    BIOS Version = F8g
    Ram Brand = Kingston
    Model = Kingston HyperX T1 6GB Kit DDR3-2000 CL8 240-pin DIMM XMP
    Part = KHX2000C8D3T1K3/6GX

    This is my BIOS template:

    With the above settings LinX crashed after 1 run, blue screen. I also hear coil whine so I disabled C3/C6/C7 State Support and now it's gone.

    That means you need more QPI/Vtt.

    BSOD Error codes and what they mean:
    0X00000050 << Incorrect Memory Timing/Freq or Uncore Multi
    0X00000124 << Incorrect QPI/Vtt Voltage (To Much/Not Enough)
    0X00000101 << Not enough Vcore Voltage
    0X00000109 << Not enough or too Much memory voltage

    QPI/Vtt:

    1.315000 - LinX failed at 1 - 10
    1.335000 - LinX failed at 9 - 10

    Going to raise QPI/Vtt again.

    QPI/Vtt:

    1.355000 - LinX succes at 10 - 10

    What is the next step? :)

    what are coretemps like? does cpu still throttle at idle with c3/c6 disabled? could try 10 runs on high with intel burn test but looks fine so far

    I'm running Prime95 now for 3 hours (3960 MHz), no problems so far. The core temps are 79 - 77 - 77 - 76 max.

    I'll try this after another 5 hours of Prime.
