The problem has popped back up again. I can't get the bus speed higher than 266.7. The Bios says it's 401 but CPU-Z says it's 266.7. I reset to optimized default and started over with all the settings. I changed the CPU Clock Ratio to 9 and the CPU Host Frequency to 333 but CPU-Z still reads the bus speed as 266.7. I can't get the clock speed over 2.44 Ghz (stock speed) because the bus speed won't go over 266.7. Bios says everything is good but it's not.

I don't know what to do. I can't keep taking the battery out of the MB to reset the BIOS and I can't update the BIOS because there are no more updates.

I installed EasyTune5 and when I pushed the overclock button which was not lit up, I got an error message saying that either my motherboard did not support overclocking or that the dynamic power saver was enabled. I don't have dynamic power saver installed.

Now I can't uninstall the stupid POS.

EDIT: Went into safe mode and uninstalled it.

I guess the board is shot for overclocking.

What setting are you using for Performance Enhance? Turbo? Standard? Extreme? Set it to Standard.
Mch Core = +0.20 might help, as Chike suggested.
If clearing the CMOS doesn't help, re-flash your bios using Lsdme's procedure and use the correct F6 bios and try again.

Several months ago, my P35-DS3L suddenly refused to overclock when the bios reset itself to default settings. I re-flashed my bios using the same bios version that was previously installed and everything returned to normal.

Be sure to set Full Screen Logo Show to DISABLED, so that you can view your cpu and memory speeds while posting.

Reflashed the BIOS and raised MCH to +.20 but no help. I always set Performance Enhance to Normal. I have a doctors appointment this morning. I'll take the battery out later today and see if that helps. There is no 2.66 setting for System Memory Multiplier. I set it to 2.5. I think either the board or the CPU has failed, keeping the bus speed at 266.7.

I took the battery out but this time I replaced it with a new one. We'll see how long it stays overclocked.

Not very long I guess. Bus speed is back down to 266.7 and clock at 2133.6MHz.

Using the minimalist boot approach with your motherboard beside the computer case, you might find that one of your components is causing problems. Try using only one memory module in each of the memory slots to see if this makes any difference. Then repeat the test with the other memory module. You might want to test with both modules using memory slots 2 & 4 instead of 1 & 3.

When was the last time you cleaned out the inside of the computer case?
Be sure to remove and re-seat all plug-in cards and cables.
It's possible that your power supply is not working properly, borrow another psu to test with.

I noticed a warning to the right when I set CPU Host Clock Control to Manual to set System Voltage Control to Auto. I did that and everything seems to be OK for now. I was going to set everything to Optimized Defaults and just install EasyTune but I'll see how long the OC sticks before I give up.

I cleaned out the PC when I put in the new Video Card a couple of months ago. I clean it at least every six months and every time I have to open up the case. The PSU is fairly new and I ran memtest before to see if that was the problem. I had installed two more sticks of matching memory not too long ago. I did install a new DVD burner when I installed the new video card though.

When I first bought this motherboard and installed the Q6600, it ran at 2.1MHz at 266 fsb. That's why I got interested in overclocking so I could get this machine to at least run at 2.44Mhz like it's supposed to. Running at 3.2MHz was just an extra bonus.

One thing I haven't done since reinstalling Windows is to go into the registry and reset the error counter which causes windows to run at minimum settings. If I'm getting a read/write error from a DVD burner, it will keep windows from changing the settings.

So you running OC and auto voltages now?
Check VCore and VDIMM in PC health control in BIOS to make sure they are not out of line.
