    Default Is it worth overclocking?

    Hi all.
I recently upgraded my pc, new ram, better gfx card and hdd.
I decided to run a 3dmark (vantage) and it came up with a score of 15891 but trying to find systems with a near or same spec to compare is difficult.
    My system is
    Ga-x48-ds4
    Q6700
    8 gig OCZ 1066 ram
    Asus 460 gtx 1gig
2x Western digital Caviar black 640gig hdd.
Has any got a system thats close to mine in terms of spec so i can see where i need to aim for?
    Thanks in advance

If you want to get the most of the video card you should look into overclocking the cpu to atleast 3.6ghz-4.0ghz. This way the cpu will not be holding back the gpu.
    Main Rig
    Gigabyte z87x-OC
    Haswell i7 4770k - 4.7Ghz @ 1.330v LLC Extreme (L310B492)
    G.Skill F3-1700CL9D-8GBXM DDR3-2133mhz 9-11-10-28 1.65v @ 2800mhz 12-14-14-35 1.7v
    Samsung Green 8GB 2x4GB MV-3V4G3D/US DDR3 1.3v 30nn @ 2200Mhz 11-11-11-32 1.60v
    Sapphire ATI HD 7970 3GB clocked 1200MHz @ 1.181v.
    HiS ATI HD 6950
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD (boot Drive) on Intel sata3 controller port0
Corsair Force GT 120 GB Sata3 SSD on Intel sata3 controller port1
    Samsung 320GB HD322GJ 7200 RPM 16M cache on Intel sata3 controller port2
    Sony Optiarc DVD-RW AD-7240S on Intel sata3 controller port5
    CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX PSU

Q6700 may be tough to get at 3.6Ghz or above, 3.2-3.4Ghz should be a breeze though if you have good cooling.

And yes, I'd advise an overclock for sure!

lsd is doubly certain on that.
most intel stuff you/we should be able to overclock by 25% easily. If we couldnt well what would be the point of buying bios adjustable parts.
After that , say getting a 40% speed increase or higher ,depends on cpu clockability memory clockability ,cooler type all that stuff.
download msi afterburner to clock your gx card up a bit also.
Compare your system to standard clock higher spec/newer ones ,there is more data on those.

Like my setup shows better performance overall than a Standard clocked i7 920 1366 system.
It feels better too comparisons to overclocked i7 920's dont feel half as good ;0

Toms hardware cpu and gx comparisons and their scores under different benchmarks is a good source of info.
Sisoft's sandra includes test figures for other systems ,but I think its a bit biased towards telling you u need to upgrade and where to buy(sponsored links).

3d mark vantage i think wazza300,psycho 101,Triton05 and I were having a lively discussion and posted some scores way back around the time of the 460 release.
I think psycho is on dual (sli) 460 cards now but then we were comparing test scores mainly with overclocked gx too.
I found the thread way back around august september but there is an awfull lot of waffle in it.
I think we were getting around 17000-18000 in 3d vantage.. but that was with oclocked gx and that test is more gx orientated.

When I googled it, I found a website that said the correct format is j'habite en Irlande.
It had something to do with mandatory contractions in French.
Near as I can tell it means "I live in Ireland". Or maybe it's Iceland. :)
