    Hello, Wazza300.

I've never bent pins before nor fried a cpu. So I don't actually know what it is I should be looking for. I popped off the cooler and have been staring at the underside of the spu and inside the socket. But I don't know what a bent pin looks like. All the pads under the cpu look the same. And all the pins in the socket look the same, too. :/

I don't think you've fried the cpu,you need to look at the socket under a light, look at an angle and look for a uniformed pattern at tips of the pins, any that look out of place are probably bent, you could take some pics of the whole socket without the flash and close up as you can

Please post some images of the CPU socket for us to look at.

Take the images in Macro mode if your camera has that, from a few angles in a well lit room with no flash.

Don't get too close to the socket or the pins will be blurry, not too far away either :)

Also, if your CPU is installed right now, before taking it out for images please remove the board from the motherboard tray and try booting with it sitting on a cardboard box only (NO tray)

Here is a cpu socket with 2 bent pins:

Bent pins are difficult to detect.
Lsdme is a master at finding bent pins where lesser mortals can't find them.
Could it be because he has bent so many pins?

They are super hard to see sometimes on these newer P55/X58 boards, they are SO tiny!

I have only ever bent one pin, on a P55, bent three trying to get some ceramic out of a socket with a light brush - but they bent back fine after cleanup was done.

Still some paste in there though

    * Got pushed into the socket because P55 sockets suck and do not come even with the CPU, so you can squeeze paste into there on top or bottom, sides too which is where it happened on this one due to heavy CPU pot and a good amount of paste.

I took a weak magnifying lens and combed through the socket under a lamp, but couldn't find where the bent pin might be. I spun the motherboard tray, tilted it, squinted at it, and I just don't see anything amiss. I guess the socket has pads, too. But they're fine, too.

Are bent pins very hard to spot?

Unfortunately, I do not have a digital camera with a macro function. I have a nice old Pentax film camera only that is currently out of proprietary batteries.

Hello, ProfJim and Lsdmeasap. Your posts did not update on this thread until I posted the above. :)

Yes, bent pin is VERY hard to see sometimes, especially on these boards.

Please first test the board OFF the motherboard tray, just on a box or wooden table. Then if it's still the same please take some images of the CPU socket and post here please.

It's OK you don't have Macro, just try to take a bunch so you can get a few ones that are not blurry.

Wait, so no digital camera at all? If not then not sure what you can do, wait a borrow one from a friend of family member maybe?

IS it not a fool proof idea to look at the pinheads? I can see the pinheads on the top L shaped region if I look at it from the right side from a low angle. And I can see the pinheads of the bottom L shaped region if I look at it from the left side at a low angle. The pinheads all seem to be pointing up.

I'll test the motherboard on the Gigabyte box.
