    Default Having trouble testing each stick on X58A UD3R, what am I forgetting? ^^;

    What am I forgetting to make my system post?

    My board is the X58A UD3R.

    I'm trying to test each stick. But I can't get the gigabyte logo to show.

    I have an optical drive connected with Memtest disc inside.

    I have a video card and the Intel cooler on my cpu.

    I have one stick on the first white slot closest to the cpu. When I put the stick in the first blue slot, I get the power error warning, which is a continuous series of short beeps. But I don't get even one beep when I have a stick in the white slot.

    I have USB keyboard and mouse.

    I have the big fat power cable and the little power cable. connected to the motherboard.

    Also, I forgot to reset my BIOS from my overclock before I tore my system apart. I was hoping to get into BIOS and resetting it, but I can't even get to the logo screen.

    What am I doing wrong this time?

    are you seeing a post code error on the LED display on the motherboard? or hearing a sequence or beeps?

    Make sure the CPU cooler is properly seated and that the fan is plugged in to the header labelled CPU FAN

    Have you had this system working before? or is this a new build? and what brought to wanting to test each stick of memory?

    Can you also tell us a little more about your system?

    CPU:
    Mother board: X58A-UD3R [have you flashed the bios?]
    Memory:
    Hard Drive (s): ? [and what port(s) they are plugged in to]
    Video Card (s): ? [what slot is it connected to]
    Power Supply:

    Hello, Vinster. :)

    I am hearing no beeps. The board does not have an LED display for post code errors.

    The Intel cooler uses push-pin technology. The fan is spinning. I can open and close the optical drive, but the disc does not spin. The video card fan spins also, but I get nothing on the screen. The board does show LEDs, but I think these are BIOS settings indicators. Basically, the system powers on, but does not post.

    I have been using this system for about half a year. But recently, I have been having cold boot issues. The problem is related to the link below. But it's not really worth reading. The problem is likely do to an error on my part. I either messed up in the assembly or in choosing a ram kit that is not fully compatible with the board. ^^;

    I have unplugged the hdds. I just want to run memtest from the optical drive.

    I thought the white slot was #1. But I wonder if you are supposed to put it into slot#2. The rapid short beeps, saying power error, is unnerving, but I wondder if it will send me into BIOS to change settings. But until someone can tell me, I am hesitant to try it again. ^^;

    BIOS is on FF2. I've successfully flashed BIOS twice on this board.

    It won't boot if ram is in the blue slots unless all the white slots are populated,to test each memory stick test them one by one in first white socket from CPU,then repeat test with other two white ram slots

    Switch your power supply off or unplug it. Press the power button on the computer several times to drain the power from the board. Now press and hold in the Clear CMOS button for 30 seconds. Plug in your power supply and boot the computer, you should be able to get into the BIOS now. Once in the BIOS load optimized defaults, save, and reboot.

    When you swapped the video cards, did you turn off the power supply and drain the power from the board before you removed the old card and put in the 5770? Have you tried reseating the video card?

    @flyfisher

    How long am I supposed to wait before the Gigabyte logo shows up?

    I took the whole box apart. There was plenty of time for power to drain before I started taking apart the components connected to power. The issue is not that I get nothing to show up on the screen, I'm not even getting a beep.

    The card is snapped into place by a clip on the PCIE x16 slot.
