    Chike,
Ya, I know. But the lowest temperatures start with the first degree! As I told you earlier, while some like it hot I like my electronics COOL! ;-) I figure for the couple of bucks, why not. It is a "hands on" learning experience.

Ait flow from top to bottom? At least it's how it looks to me
    How are case funs arranged?

    Chike,
SUCESS @ 3GHz! I put in the new G.Skill RAM 4x2 8Gig. Ran it on Prime for 2hr no errors. @2.1V 1066 tRead 7. So far so good. Liking that G.Skill!
Had to run Vcore up to 1,3000V to run IBT 5x successfully. Notice the Temps. I am not sure why test#5 ran cooler than the first 4. What do you think?
Yes, the air comes in the rear into the plenum. Then gets pulled through the top drive cage across from the fan, and also down through the CPU. Then it is pulled out the front through the top 3 small fans and out through the two drive cages and out of the bottom louvers. So it is in from back, out through the front. Originally the case drew air in through the front louvers on the bottom but that sucked in a lot of floor dirt. This way the air is MUCH cleaner physically. After I close the case I may do some fiddling with the top three fans, reverse the flow so they are intake fans, depending on the flow temperatures I find.

BTW: Microsoft made me re-register my copy of XP since it was on such a "Different machine." :-)

BTW: I love profJIM's signature. You do not know how many times (probably you do) I wanted to do that to my computers but I did not want to hurt my hand.
When my daughter was ~3 she was at McDonald's and the burger fell out of her hamburger and she said "&%**@@?!!!" and my wife asked her where she learned such language? She said.............."Daddy at the computer!" So much for "Shop talk." :-)

The question is if you want to try 3.1+ or leave it at this.
If you want to try higher, you will need to use SMM 2.40B or2.00B/D.
Try the new SMM at current FSB first. tRD may need to be higher.
Then increase FSB and vcore as needed.
414MHz should be possible. My P43 board would not boot above 418, and 416 is the highest I used it with.

    Chike,
I would like to see how far I can take it but I do not want to burn it irreparably. But I would like to find the upper limit. I hope to be in the 3.2 to 3.3 region. Hopefully curiosity will not kill the computer.

In my previous post did you notice the temps? I am not sure why test#5 ran cooler than the first 4. What do you think?

I still plan on re-seating the CPU cooler and see if I can get better temperatures also I am going to put better cooling on the MCH at that time. Parts are on the way.
My wife is the limiting factor at the moment. She suggests that there is life outside my man cave, er..I mean office. Well at least I am of my cave. (She lets me be.) Any way she has kindly suggested that I should stop spending and leave some for Uncle Sam on the 15th of April. So I am going to wind things up, after the next cooling update. (Next time maybe water cooling! )

    You stated:

Try the new SMM at current FSB first. tRD may need to be higher.
Question: SMM is? B/D? (I know B&D) What do the initials mean? tRD is @ 7 since 6 would not work with Kingston. Dram is 2.1V.

Notice I updated my signature. I'll have even more fans when I am done. But I did say "I like things COOL" It is really not noisy since the fans are running in "quiet" mode.

    Chike,
Had to try IBTx10 here is the result. The temperatures seem more logical to me. The Core V is set to 1.3000V and varies from start @ 1.264 7o 1.232V to 1.216 where it holds during 100% duty and raises to 1.232V @95%duty cycle.

    Chike,
Figured out, I think, SMM-------System Memory Multiplier. Did I figure it out? Now I am on 2.66D. SO the next SMM would be 2.40D. Does 2.00 B/D mean either 2.00B or 2.00D SMM multiplier? What is the difference between B & D? Currently I am running Prime 95 for the evening to test stability.
I have attached the current state of my BIOS for your review.
    Thanks,
    BD

Yes, SMM - Syetem Memory Multiplier. Use either of the 3 that works o,r yields better performance. For the 2.00D/B use timings 4-4-4-12.
Test them at 400MHz FSB then, set CPU Ratio 7 and FSB to 420MHz and lower untill the PC boots, then set 1-2 lower, CPU Ratio 7.5 and vcore as needed.
The difference of the different straps(A/B/C/D) is in advanced setting and maybe other that we do not have access to, each tuned for different FSB.

    Chike,
I ran Prime all night in the "Heat" mode and it was rock solid! The temperatures ran ~+20C from idle 72-65-67-72 MAX.
I was looking through the BIOS making sure that what I listed in my "BIOS Template" was correct (only error was listing in the Memory Frequency (MHz) table where I had (800) and it should have been (1066) and the [1066] is correct.) Did you have a chance to review it?

While I was in the BIOS I noticed that the BIOS listed the System Temp as 34c but it listed the CPU temp as 27c how can this be? Possibly this is a clue as to why we are reading some high numbers? Also the temp alarm is set for 60c/140F and I have never heard it go off. 27c+20c rise would be 47c that the BIOS would see. Also it may explain why the fan speed regulation never kicked in. (I now have it set to "ON" with out speed control for that reason, there was no response to temperature rise.)

Well tomorrow I think I will take the cooler off and look at its' footprint and install the MCH cooling. Maybe lap the processor. One last time, hopefully, then I will resume the quest for MORE SPEED!!! BTW I was a hot rodder in the 60's, this is better, no greasy fingernails!!! :-)

I asked about where you are because I have a vineyard in Northern California and I thought maybe I could send you some wine. ;-) You deserve it! I really appreciate your counsel.
    Thank you again,
    BD
