    Chike,
Yes with three at the moment, pulled bad stick.
So, do you think I should start at lowering the tRead to 6 and then retest (memTest & prime95 then IBT) and then go for post #8?
I will go in now and change the VTT to 1.200V.
The DRAM Voltage is 2.200V but I will check it also.
After this is all proven stable then I will go for post #8 sound about correct?

For the overclock settings set tRD 9 or 8 (for now), 7 should be ok later once other settings proven stable.
~32 GFlops looks right for stock settings.
Is the 70c max core temp during IBT or Prime95?
For memory benchmark I use MaxxMEM² - PreView.

    Chike,
69c in Prime95, 70c in IBT. The temps fluctuate during test so Prime95 could also have peaked at 70c. Only one one processor #0. Again, is the spread between processor temps "normal" or could I have messed up the application of the TIM?
I'll set the tRD to 8 now and then use post #8.
Thanks for the MaxxMEM tip I'll get and try it. :-)

Useually there a difference between 2 pairs of cores. Which method did you use for thermal paste and which thermal paste are you using?
Also seem too litle difference between Prime95 and IBT, IBT give much more heat, ~ 10c+ most times.
Prime95 runs 2 different types of tests one is normally hotter than the other.

    Chike,
Ran "blend" and small fft also ran the other one, I forget the name, small was a few degrees less than blend. The numbers quoted are for "blend."
I used the "Nanosilver" which came with the unit. Wondering if "lapping" the processor would tighten up the numbers. It seems to me that ~10c is a pretty big spread.

Default Re: Overclocking a Intel Q9300 on a GA-P43-ES3G (rev1.4) and memory speed problem

    Ckike,
I lowered tRead to 8 for the test.
Used #8 and ran Ran Prime95 using "in place FFT" their heat maker and ran it for an hour and a half #0-65c #1-59c #2-56c #3-64c at end.
Then ran IBT in Standard. It gave the reading of ~34.7 GFlops
    5 times======================== #0-67c #1-61c #2-58c #3-66c
    10 times======================= #0-70c #1-63c #2-60c #3-68c
    Then back to Idle (right after 10x test) #0-58c #1-49c #2-46c #3-54c
Swing from idle to 10x operating temp= #0+12c #1+14c #2+14c #3+12c (Strange, #0&#3 have the highest temp and the lowest swing --- #1&#2 have the lowest temp and highest swing.)

The new RAM, Crucial Ballistic Tracer (I could not resist the option of seeing "dancing leds") DDR2-1066 MHZ/PC2-2GB. Crucial PN--BL25664AA106A.Z16F55 I got 4x2Gig sticks of it Total of 8Gig so that when I install Win 7 64 I will have enough RAM. Do you see any problems if I put all 4 in now, even though Win XPsp2 can only use <4 at present? Later, after I get this system OCed and stable, I plan on immaging the finished system to a new disk drive and doing a 64bit Win7 on this system then dual booting (any program recomendations?) I have over 100 programs installed on this drive and do not want to throw them out (I am familiar with them.) I understand that I can run XP inside Win 7 but just to be safe I would like this system to be capable of "stand alone" opperation. Again your comments would be VERY appreciated. I will put the Kingston memory on E-Bay after Kingston sends me new replacement memory. This new memory has the same timing #s as the Kingston but is @2.0V instead of Kingston's 2.2V Looks like I get to run MemTest for a while AGAIN...........Oh well I got the hang of it now. Let me know if there are any settings I should change in BIOS besides the DRAM Voltage (if that is even necessary?) I'll start w/2.0V for starters and leave the processor at its current 2804.99 speed and see how it goes the BIOS says that the memory is running at 997Mhz , MCH frequency Latch set at AUTO and Memory Multiplier set at 2.66D.
Thank you again for "walking this road with me!"

Default Re: Overclocking a Intel Q9300 on a GA-P43-ES3G (rev1.4) and memory speed problem

Could be the thermal paste, maybe check how it is spread on the CPU and heatsink base? Too much/too little may be a problem.
At 2.8GHz I wouldn't expect temps that high. In the summer at max OC (3.85GHz) my CPU is ideling at ~49c with 32c ambiant.
It could be that actually the low temps are correct but you will have to calibrate them, untill then, for safety go wth the higher.

The XP is 32 or 64 bit? If it's 64 it should be able to use all the memory.
Start with 4GB, 8 maay be a problem, or may not depend on luck.
Keep the same settings for memory except voltage, set it according to new memory specs. But maybe test them first at 333FSB with 3.20B multi tRD 6 as before.
I have a side fan that blows over the NB HS. Some glue a small fan on the HS itself, I don't know if that's a good thing to do.

    Ckike,
How do you "calabrate" the cores?
I'll use the settings and make the tests.
What are your feelings regarding "lapping" the processor?
