Default Overclocking a Intel Q9300 on a GA-P43-ES3G (rev1.4) and memory speed problem

Where can I find information about the settings needed for overclocking the Q9300 to ~3.2 Ghz?
Also my Kingston KHX8500D2/1g (Part# 99U5315-053.A00LF) are showing up in EasyTune6 as PC2-5400(400 MHZ)not the 1066MHZ speed they were purchased for. What is the story here?
Do you have recomended BIOS settings for my desired performance configuration?

Story is they are not "real" PC2-8500, they do not meet the standard and need high voltage to operate at 1066.
Select Performence Enhance standard, memory multiplier 3.20B, set standard timing to manual 5-5-5-15, Static tRead Value 7-6 in both channels, Driving Strength 1066 both channels, DRAM Voltage according to the modules spec for DDR-1066.
You may also need to set MCH Core 1.2v.
Unlikely that you can overclock to 3.2GHz with this board, 3.1GHz maybe 3.16GHz if you are lucky.
What kind of CPU cooler do you use?

Red face Re: Overclocking a Intel Q9300 on a GA-P43-ES3G (rev1.4) and memory speed problem

A CoolMaster CI5-9IDSP-PL-GP Rated for Intel Core 2 Quad processor(130W) UPC code 870423005711. Thank you for the information. The system is not as fast or as stable (are they ever?) as I would like it to be. When I boot the POST some times "sees" all the hard drives and other times it misses some. I "upgraded" from a Pentium 4 Core Duo @3.4GHZ with a FSB of 800MHZ which seemed as fast if not faster than my current configuration. I went to Gigabyte's site and found an Intel INF upgrade (from current ver. 5.1.2600.0 to their site's ver. 9.1.2.1007) but the instructions (read me file) do not match the information that Device Manager is giving me so I have queried them about it.
Thank you for your help and information. I'll try your settings. It's hard to work on a tight budget. ;-)

Thank you! my system boots MUCH FASTER!!! I used a value of 6 for the Static tRead Value. So far so good! :-)

Pentium is no match for Core CPU in computing poer, but for normal use there is not much difference.

It can't make much difference, memory performance do not have much impact on overall performance. Id it a 2x512MB kit?

With this cooler OC will be very limited, 2.66GHz, perhaps 2.8GHz, not more.
For 2.66GHz you will have to compansate with lower memory frequency (with lower latency and about the same performance).
If you wish we can give you settings to work with, but overclocking require extended stability testing.

Would appriciate settings to try for say 2.8, 3 and 3.1 to3.3GHZ. I am using a full tower case with VERY good airflow. Any comments on the Intel INF update? I am running 4x1Gig memory. Is this brand/type of memory a limitation?

What is the concern about the INF file?
Four double sided modules may be an issue, but we shall see.

Lets try this and see how your temps are holding. Air flow or not there is just as much you can do with this cooler.
Begin with vcore 5 ticks above default, increase if needed.
Use Static tRead 9 first until everything else is stable.
Run a few memtest86+ passes before running windows.
Use Core Temp/RealTemp/HW Monitor (CPUID) to monitor core temps. For prime 95 core temps should be under 70c.
Run an hour r 2 Prime95 small FFT first, increase vcore if it fails.
Then run blend for 8+ hours.
The NB heatsink is rather small so I kept FSB low as possible, you may try 400x7.0 instead.
What are VTT(CPU Termination) and MCH Core steps?

Thumbs up Re: Overclocking a Intel Q9300 on a GA-P43-ES3G (rev1.4) and memory speed problem

I am interested in the INF file since there was a problem, during POST, recognizing the hard drives in my system. The problem has magically disappeared (I hate when that happens) and I think it was related to the memory fix you so kindly helped me with. I listed my INF versions in an earlier post, just was trying to have "the latest and greatest" versions on my machine. Still would like to but, as I stated in the previous post, the instructions that the Gigabyte site (ReadMe file in Gigabyte's "Intel INFUpdate" for the P43-ES3G rev 1.4) do not match the available options in Device Manager.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
I will give the settings that you have given me and post the results. I wll be out of my offce tomorrow so it will probably be Thurs or Fri.<o:p></o:p>
Again thank you for your kind assistance.<o:p></o:p>

    What options exactly?
The inf file is for many differentchipsets, not just the specific motherboard.
It wouldn't fix anything at POST.
You can savedifferent BIOS profiles by pressing F11 at main BIOS screen and later restore them with F12.
