the pins in question look almost flat compared to the other ones, not a very slight bending, i think im just gonna request the RMA and pay for them to repair it.

bent pins wouldn't cause any cpu damage though right?

I can't say whether it would damage cpu,I doubt it but you won't know till you get the mb back, don't rma the cpu till you test it in a repaired mb

I doubt your cpu is damaged, too. :)

It's just bad luck with your motherboard. What is your motherboard revision, by the way? You should make note. You should have 2.0, right?

    its a 2.0 rev board.

I've never had to fill out a rma to the manufactuter.

I just go to the gigabyte website and fill in my serials and such and then send the board? Is it best to just tell them flat out I will pay for the damaged pins or let them call me and figure it out? I don't want them sending it back unfixed and I have NO problem paying.

thanks for the reassurance on the cpu.

:D The other day, I filled out my first RMA form ever. My experience with Corsair has been painless so far. I just sent my kit back via USPS. But now, I won't be able to get any work done until I get my system put together again. ^^; I hope the process will conclude in a satisfying way.

Sorry, I can't answer your question about the RMA process. But I don't think you need to say you will pay for damages. Just make sure you follow their instructions. I hope your experience will go smoothly, too.

When i view the entire socket at a certain angle that the picture is at some of the downward pins look bent too but its very uniformed so i doubt it, just my eyes playing tricks i think.

I agree that the top region does not seem to have any bent pins.

By the way, where did you buy the board?

    newegg

its most likely my fault and I take any blame for it if it is.. first time building pc but I really wasn't being careless which sucks but its a lesson learned. Hopefully the motherboard comes back and everything works

As far as I understand the i5/i7 processors are much less fragile then previous so hopefully no damage to the cpu, either way I really need a gaming pc and I don't want to settle for buying something or paying someone in a shop to build it.

Hopefully i'll rma the board, pay for the fix and it will work.

Why do you think you bent the pins? As delicate and easy to bend as the pins are, they are also harder to bend than they seem...and sound. When you put the chip in, sometimes, you have to slide the chip. And when you shut with the lever, you might hear crackling noises. But such things are not unusual. If you simply dropped your chip flat onto the socket, then I don't see how you could bend those pins...

You should compare RMA services between Gigabyte and Newegg. See which one might send back a new motherboard, see which RMA destination is closer to your home, etc.

I've rma'd a gigabyte board for bent cpu pins,it was worse than yours, you have to fill in an rma request form on gigabytes website, don't mention your willing to pay, wait for them to msg you about it,they will send you an rma number then you write it on the package and post it to gigabyte,I waited roughly 2weeks to get it back and the cpu socket was like new and I didn't have to pay though my mb was in warranty
