    Default Advice/Help with mild OC X58A-UD5

    Now that I have the system running stable with 12GB RAM I would like to OC slightly. I currently have it running on turbo mode which puts the clock at 2.8ghz. Ideally I would just like to bump it up to 3.2 - 3.4ghz. Is there an easy way to do this like the turbo mode in the bios or do I have to go thru a bunch of different settings. Is easytuner6 an option? Thanks for any help.

    Could you share with us your MIT settings? :)

    You could either take pictures of the BIOS screens or use Lsdmeasap's BIOS template.

    I gues that would help wouldn't it. :) I know the BIOS version is a bit old but as per my other thread I could not get the system to run with F6. Below are my settings. Most are default.
    Thanks again,

    turbo...off
    c1e off
    c3...off

    make sure you do not load windows, keep cdrom as first boot and keep memtest in optical drive

    bclk...200
    cpu...x16...3.2GHz
    or

    If you want to push your system to 3.8, set cpu...x19.

    load memtest and find ideal QPI/VTT and VCORE.

    For 3.4ghz you can set 21x160bclk,keep qpi/vtt voltage as it is and manually set cpu voltage to normal setting,if unstable set to 1.26v,I would keep turbo and all c states enabled except c1e,all other settings are fine on auto

    @Wazza300

    So, in order to reach x21 on i7 920, you need to keep turbo on? I'm a bit confused about how that works. I always keep turbo off, so I have not tested the feature.

    Also, I prefer BCLK at 200 for the RAM speed...160x8=1280MHz. But with your settings, the system probably consumes less power and is cooler.

    @Wazza300

    Also, as now I have been able to verify that I had a bad RAM stick, my overclocking experience is tainted by it. So can you tell me how stable your system is with SPD=x10?

    @Doug H

    If you set...
    BCLK...160
    Uncore...20 (or 21)
    SPD...10
    ...then you would get RAM speed...1600

    Cool, I'll give that a shot as well.

    On another related note, I've never used memtest before so I thought I would load it up on my shop PC and see how it works. I burned the iso file to a CD and when the system loads the disc, it just sits there

    "loading...................................... .."

    is this correct or is it supposed to do something else. I let it sit there about 20 mins and it did nothing else.

    Turbo doesn't matter on or off aslong as cpu multi is 21x,I just like to change the bare minimum in the bios,my system is 100% stable,I'm clocked different though through dvid,at 4.2ghz I need 1.265v but with vdroop it uses 1.23v,I dont use llc,temps hit a max of 75-79c across the cores/load and 35-39c idle,Intel burn test is good program usually 10-15 runs on high or very high
