Exclamation BSOD (updated 2-18) !!! problem with latest audio Realtek Function Driver R2.54

Once I updated this Realtek Function Driver R2.54 (dated 2-11-2011) , Win7 could not detect the speakers that connect to the computer so there were no sound.

As a result of this, I had to rollback to the previous driver (6.0.1.6194) in order to work normally.

    Any idea?

btw, my monitor connects to the video card via HDMI cable but I use the two speakers as default.

It could be that driver version, or a configuration issue.

You'd have to install it again to test :)

Install it and be sure you go into sounds and set the speakers as the default device, not HDMI, and see if that helps

Question Re: problem with latest audio Realtek Function Driver R2.54 (dated 2-11-2011)

nope. uninstall and install the latest driver, still the sound icon at the task bar says "no speaker or headphone are plugging in".

more strange thing is if I reinstall the previous driver, again there is no sound and the sound icon at the task bar says "no speaker or headphone are plugging in".

only way to work is to restore to the previous state (with previous driver).

seems like Win 7 cannot detect my speakers for some reasons.....

Are you going into control panel, then sounds, and setting speakers as default instead of HDMI?

Here is what I mean, you need to set it like this

Azalie Codec must also be enabled in the BIOS, but I assume you have that set already since you do have sound with the older driver.

yeap, it has been like this setup for a long time....

looks like this is pretty a common problem:

Hmm, so did any other older Realtek drivers ever work for you?

How about uninstall realtek if installed, then update via Microsoft updates for a newer UUA driver (It would be in the optional section)

Or, you could try this fix as it has worked for many in the past

Everything is fine if the system RESTORES to the earlier state with Realtek driver (X).

However, if I reinstall and install driver (X) again, it shows this condition as the audio device (speakers) is disable:

It says audio device has been disable in Windows:

Device (speakers) is there but no sound indicator (green bars):

Agian, if I uninstall driver (X) and install the latest driver (Y), it is the same situtation: no sound.

I had done all these changes but still got the same result (no sound):
    - reset default BIOS
    - uninstall ATI Catalyst Control Center (thought there could be a conflict to REALTEK)
    - uninstall and install REALTEK drivers in SAFE MODE

SO FAR, THE ONLY WAY TO WORK IS TO RESTORE THE SYSTEM TO THE EARLIER POINT WITH REALTEK DRIVER (X)

Yes I have but could not find any Microsoft UAA drivers at all.

    Here is a reference article:
"No speakers or headphones are plugged in" error on Windows 7 - TechNet Articles - Home - TechNet Wiki

If this is the cause, BIOS on P55A-UD6 only has "auto" and "disable" for the Azalia Codec. Maybe Gigabyte needs to include an "enable" option???
