I also wish to express my gratitude for Wazza and all others that have been very helpful. Thumbs up!!!!

I am also now running DRAM at 1333, and the QPI/Vtt remains at 1.175

    No issues.

    Coretemp shows 44 42 43 41

Are you using latest coretemp? You might see a slight variation from bios and different software,I wouldn't worry though those temps look ok,is the cpu throttling down when. idle?

EDIT: I just thought, when your in the bios your cpu isn't running anything is it?things like the OS,programs ect so it would run slightly cooler in the bios than it would when in Windows hence the 2c temp difference

I take the point about the windows not running, but the 2c difference is a overall idle increase after changing the ram speed!

The difference between BIOS and CoreTemp readings is 8c!

mines also the latest coretemp 0.99.8 64 bit, but doesn't show any throttling back - the speeds rock steady at 3197.71Mhz

Is there a task that is running that keeps the speeds rock steady? For example my virus scanner ESET periodically performs scans and/or updates its signatures that may be causing this......

Cpu-z will show you actual cpu speed, you need eist and c3/c7 enabled in bios and Windows 7 balanced power saving option enabled for cpu to throttle at idle, you can download cpuz on main tweaktown/gigabyte page

I went into my bios and "C3 / C6 / C7 State" was disabled, and so I changed it to enabled. The EIST was set to AUTO should this be changed to enable?

My Power Saving in Windows 7 is Balanced.

    Coretemp indicates 43 42 43 41

    Thank you guys....

    R E S U L T !!!!!!!!!

Windows power plan was set to advanced - where it kept the proccessor at min 100%. Used balanced (Min 5%) and watched the speed drop...!! (I didn't even get to check the BIOS so I assume its OK)

    And ......

The core temps also dropped - by around 4c !!
Now on idle they are 35 36 35 33 (room temp just below 20c)

    And......

what a great result with the DRAM !
I hadn't even checked before to see what speed it was!

Thanks guys - you're the best!

I joined this forum because it was where I found the best information when I wanted to update my BIOS a couple of days ago.

    good decision !!

And thanks so much to azmothman for letting me gatecrash and share this thread - much appreciated !

Yes enable eist, and c3,you can disable c1e aslong as balanced is selected in Windows it will still throttle at idle, choosing high performance profile in windows will run cpu at full speed all the time inc at idle

I have just checked my BIOS:

    EIST = Enabled
C3/C6/C7 = Disabled (changed to Enabled)
C1E = Enabled (changed to Disabled)

    Latest CoreTemp shows 33, 34, 34, 31

but thats probably because the room is getting much colder as the heating has now turned itself off!!
