    Default EX58-UD5 and Highpoint flails.

Im having a problem with my system that Ive had from the beginning when I built it (01/10). I recycled the Highpoint 3510 and the 4 Seagate drives from a previous system that I blew up. Its just really starting to get to me now. It takes sometimes 30-45 minutes to convince it to start.
The issue is I have maybe a 10% chance that it will start up properly from a powered off state. Most of the time there will be no display and the GPU fan goes full speed. If I let it go, the debug led will go FF and it will give a single beep. As far as I can tell no difference from when it works properly. To get it to work I have this system worked out.
First I will switch the power off at the supply. Once it drains I pull the highpoint and clear the cmos. I switch it back on, go into the BIOS, load my settings and reboot. I switch it off again once it starts loading Windows. I install the highpoint again in the 2nd x16 slot and switch it on. Usually this works and it will boot properly. Sometimes I have to switch it to the x8 slot and back again. The x8 slot rarely works, the x16_2 has better chance of success. I have also tried the X4 slot before I installed the creative, that didnt seem to help. I dont know what it is that causes it or why it works only some of the time. I suspect its trying to use the highpoint as a video card maybe?
    Any ideas?

Have you tried the latest beta bios's on tweaktown/gigabyte page? Seems to me the bios isn't recognizing your raid card correctly, you could email gigabyte directly and tell them the raid card model number, maybe they can send you a custom bios to fix it?

No, Ill go ahead and try that now. Ive been updating BIOS to current stable since Ive had it in hopes it will fix it.
I have another theory I need to try, as well, if that does not work.

Noop. Loaded F13q and restarted. It powered off, powered back on and the Video fan spun up to full speed. I shut it off at the PS and pulled the 3510. Fired it up, went into the BIOS and loaded optimized defaults. Killed it and reinstalled the 3510; no dice.
I then tried my other theory and taped off the SMBus pins on the 3510. No dice on that either. When I looked at the card more carefully, those pins are not hooked to anything anyway.
Finally got it working my usual way. But it isnt any improvement.
On a side note, the MIT screen in F13 is completely FUBAR. I like the informational screen, but the rest of it is a bit confusing. I like the original design with all the most common changed options on one screen. I'd go back to F12, but I'd have to go through that again to get it started. Ill keep F12 on a flash drive in case a power failure forces a shutdown anyway.

Yes they changed the bios layout from f12,I like the old layout too,you can always flash back when you get time,I would email gigabyte and explain your problem with that raid card

I contacted them at the same time I posted this thread. I was hoping someone here might have a guess as to what the issue is. My previous experience is they are a bit slow to answer emails.

Lsdmeasap might know,I'm guessing its a bios issue though, they should reply in 2-3 days depending how busy they are
Did you test the raid card in another pc just to makesure it wasn't damaged with your previous pc failing?

No, I dont have another machine with multiple x16 slots or open ended x1,x4 slots to plug it into.
Once I can get it to fire up, it runs perfectly, however.
