Two days in a row it's been stable and no cold boot issues with QPI/VTT 1.355, RAM 1.66 and the core temps are still 52-54, which I understand are somewhat normal for I7 so a thank you is in order.

Sir, I'm actually experiencing the same problem with X58A-UD3R REV. 2

Can I ask If what "turbo" did you disable and what 23x multiplier is that?
    Thanks a lot : )

I've built this machine for my younger brother and believing it's fixed and stable, passed it along(we live in different parts of the country). I talked to him about it, asked him from time to time if he had had any boot issues and he told me it was working fine....got around to going home this week and it turns out he hadn't turned it off for two months straight and it was still giving him grief.....i get an overclocking failed sometimes with these settings....i reset the bios, input the same settings...get a couple of restarts and it works....so I'm basically back at square one. You've helped me a lot with this thread but it seems I'm not quite there. Thanks in advance!!!

What qpi/vtt voltage are you using now? Using latest mb BIOS? And have you thought about getting an aftermarket cooler, one with a backplate?

    currently:
    cpu multi 23x
    QPI/VTT 1.355
    RAM 1.66

    I haven't flashed the BIOS...it's still FB.

What would be the difference with the backplate and why would i need it?

    OK try this:

    1. Upgrade bios to FF2 (the most stable version in my opinion for this board) - Load Setup defaults, upgrade BIOS, shutdown
    2. Turn power off and Clear CMOS
    3. Turn power on Boot into BIOS
    4. Load setup defaults -> Save and Exit
    5. Load OS, restart
    6. Report back if you are seeting cold boots under default settings

If you want to overclock try the following settings for CPU speed 3.8Ghz and Memory at 1600 (9/9/9/24). Once you stabilize overclock at either 3.8 or 4, then reduce the CAS settings to 8/8/8/24 and retest for stability

You don't wanna do any overclocking yet,esp with a stock Intel cooler

I would update to the latest BIOS first,it might support your ram better,I mention a cooler with a backplate as its far easier to install and won't damage your mb like one fitted with Intel push pins, the force you have to use on an aftermarket cooler with pushpins is way too much, one with a backplate is much easier

Ok, just flashed to the latest non-beta BIOS from Gigabyte(it said version FF, couldn't find the FF2 p4spooky recomended) and I didn't touch anything in the BIOS, except for the RAM voltage, which I upped to 1.64. Booted from the first go. I'll shut it down tonight and see what's up tomorrow.

Great - let us know. If you are interested in trying FF2 bios that I mentioned you can download it here: http://www.station-drivers.com/telec...58aud3r.f2.zip.

This BIOS is also linked from the Latest Bios thread in this forum here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post270437 (make sure you look under X58A-UD3R (2.x))

    Thanks

I tried setting all the multipliers and ram timings and no go. loaded defaults, just 1.64 on the ram voltage and enabled the raid and it booted. This may be it. will try with this a couple of more times.
@p4spooky: not a big fan of anything beta, but thanks anyway.
