Default i920 OC on X58A-UD7 running hot

    Hi,

    I've got my i920 clocked at 3.8Ghz:

    Vcore: 1.30625
    QPI/VTT: 1.3000
    DRAM: 1.65 (XMP Spec 9-9-9-24)

    Idles @ 31.

But when I run OCCT i'm seeing temps in mid-60s.

Is this usual? or have I got a TIM or cooling issue?

    Thanks,
    K

What cooler are you using? That is a pretty good overclock and voltage, and 62c is below the max temp for that processor. About 68C is the max, so as long you're under that you're fine.

Prolimatech Megahalems w/Push+Pull AK-FN057 got the rear venting 120mm connected on a PWM splitter, so got three fans inline.

Max.Temp on the 920s should be around ~92, just thinking that ~65 is going to be a problem if I want to push to 4Ghz+

Ahh pay attention Poulsen you idiot haha. Cooler is in your sig and around 92C is the max for that CPU . That is an excellent cooler judging from the reviews. Seems like 31C and 62C with 3.8GHz and 1.30625v is inline with other tests so I wouldn't think there are any issues with your cooling setup.

Personally I would stay below 80c,ideally 79c on the hottest core,92c is way too hot imo,I max at 79c at 4.2ghz with a lesser cooler so you should hit 4.2ghz,I'm running lower cpu voltage though,1.26v maybe you could try lowering it?but it just depends on your cpu,62c @3.8ghz is fine though, one thing you do see is some cpus run/need a lot of voltage but run cool and some use little voltage but run hot, just down to each cpu really

thanks for the info.. i'll try lowering the voltage, but previous attempts have failed to boot. should i lower vcore or qpi/vtt voltage?

Qpi is fine on 1.3v,cpu voltage will lose you more heat if you can lower it,but temps are fine imo,you should try for 4 or 4.2ghz

I have that same cooler and chip. 4.0GHz with +.0816? dvid. Forget the exact number; step above .0750. Running two Gelid Wing 12 in Push/Pull towards the ceiling fan in a HAF 932.
Currently 72C average in 4 thread Prime95 with 44C internal case temps. Max I seen with all 8 threads going is 78C average, 45C internal temp. IntelBurnTest is hotter, but I forget the number and thats such a ridiculous load.. I prefer the case to be under 40C but cooling problems in this room prevent that ATM.

lowered vcore voltage to 1.29375V had to go to LLC Level 1 to get it to not BSOD. Will now try next step down.

    now running at 3.9Ghz.
