    Exclamation THe Kracken (AKA 990X)

I just put the CPU in this evening. Using BIOS F8K as recommended. Run well, except CPU is at 3597.5 MHz not stock speed as you know. I have loaded "fail-safe defaults" however it continues to OC the Proc. Is this a BIOS bug?

Try loading optimized defaults, what is the stock speed for that chip? Remember that turbo will auto oc the chip, check in Windows 7 power saving options that its set to balanced, try turning off Intel turbo boost and see if it runs at stock speed but turbo boost is normal and will auto oc the chip if needed

Question Re: THe Kracken (AKA 990X)

I enabled the c3\c5\c6 I believe its called, as it states it will "idle" the chip when not using all cores. Still no luck. Turbo boost is supposed to be on from what I have read. The speed should be 3.74MHz. Thanks for any help.

Question Re: THe Kracken (AKA 990X)

Did that also (my bad should have reported). Core temps reports idle down, however, CPUZ does not....Wonder why?

If coretemp shows idle clocks and cpuz doesn't then cpuz can't read that chip yet, wait till an updated version comes out,you can always look in the bios or in easytune maybe they will show the cpu at idle?

Apparently CPUZ (CPUID) is reading it wrong. I did what you described above and CoreTemp continues to show idle process (even more now)m, however, CPUZ does not. Quick check of CPUID website and I see "980X" supported but not 990X. Maybe that is it??

    Thanks

You should start with Optimized Defaults, not Fail Safe.

990X should be fine in CPU-z, make sure you are using the latest version, check here as there may be newer than you find at the CPUID site
