    Smile Overclocking i7 920 to 3.8-4ghz EX58-EXTREME

    Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me with some settings to push my i7 920 D0 to 3.8 or 4ghz on a EX58-Extreme motherboard. I also have a NHD14 cooler so I won't have any problems there, the thing I am a bit confused about is my RAM settings, it is a corsair 6gb TR3X6G1600C7 with 7-7-7-20 1600mhz.

    Thanks.

3.8ghz should be easy,do you know how to set ram speed/timings manually?

Just set 180x21 bclk, set cpu voltage to normal setting in cpu voltage list,

Then set qpi/vtt voltage to 1.315 or 1.32v,then set dram voltage according to your ram, either 1.5 or 1.66v,

To set ram speed adjust the spd system memory to raise mem speed to 8x which will be 1440mhz due to 180bclk,to set timing choose manual/quick and type in timings,it will set them for all memory installed

Lastly set uncore freq to 17x,

    Hello,

Thanks for the reply, I am having some problems with my motherboard at the moment so I might sort that out before I approach this overclock, but in response to your question no I don't know what timings or speed to set my ram at in relation to a 3.8 or 4ghz overclock.

there should be a sticker on the ram sticks with the timings and vdimm voltage along with the speed and part number. timings would look like 8-8-8-20 or 9-9-9-24 or something.

    Does this help from CPU-Z?

I know the timings are 7-7-7-20 and the speed is 1600mhz, there is a voltage there of 1.650v. Will I be able to run the ram at 7-7-7-20 at 1600mhz with a 3.8 or 4ghz overclock? If so do I just input all of those settings along with the 1.650 v into bios?

It's just that I thought you had to modify ram speed and maybe some other factors with ram relative to what you are doing with the cpu.

    Thanks

Yes you can use those timings but because your using a 180x21 bclk for 3.8ghz speed it limits your ram speed options to 180x8=1440mhz,you can either raise the bclk/cpu speed or stay at 1440mhz in which you won't see a huge performance drop if any

If you need some suggested full settings let me know and give me your current ones in a template.

Memory speed and timings isn't going to interfere with your overclock, the CPU and memory are separated.

If you want closer to exact 1600Mhz you could use 190x21 for 4GHz CPU and 1520MHz ram, or 200x19 for 3.8GHz with ram at 1600MHz

Okay thanks for your information. I was hoping to use 200x20 first to see how it goes but if it's not stable I can go lower I guess.

Cheers man, I might try and enter the settings myself first from that gigabyte i7 920 4ghz "how to" pdf but if I run into any trouble I would definitely like to see your settings. I will let you guys know how it goes and if I have any questions.

20x200 isn't ideal, MANY CPU's do not like even CPU multiplier, that is why I suggested what I did.
