    It looks like the concensus is to go with the 2600K unless i'm getting the 980 (too much $) or betting on something 1366 based to come out in the future. I'll put together a new 2600K based plan and throw it out here for scrutiny. Plus shooting for ~1866 memory seems optimum. Thanks for the informed insight.

    Sandybridge is the way to go if your doing a new build,if your moving from x58 to sandybridge I don't see the point really,unless you just have to have the latest tech,don't forget x58s replacement is due out end of the year

    Not much difference except you cannot overclock at all the H67
    Even memory is limited to 1333.
    The Z68 will be overclockable with video support, but if you are going to use add-on graphics card there's no need to wait for it.

    EDIT: ah and I forgot... There's a 990X out there already :) but why pay more for less?

    2000Mhz memory will be fine with a 970 CPU, due to not having to run 4Ghz or above uncore.

    I'd suggest some Mushkin memory if you can get it in your area
