Chike, quick question, you said I was ok with default vcore but I was using 1.35v for 2.8 when it worked because that's what you suggested based on my setting I posted incorrectly by accident, so should I just use 1.35+0.05v then (1.4v?)?

Try 1.4 or lower, which you couldn't even boot with or at least not pass memtest86+, but we want it even lower, hopefully.
I said 1.35v back then because I thought it was the default.

Ok tried vcore at 1.4, vtt 1.24, mch core 1.24 bumped the references up one notch (mch and CPU both automatically calculated) then tried to boot, wouldn't boot to windows and got caught in that endless boot cycle that I have to clear CMOS to fix. It seems like anywhere near 1.4 vcore does this..don't know why.

As I said before, only change one reference at a time, not both, up to 3 ticks above default, then below.
When caught in boot cycle turn off the PSU and discharg it by pressing the power again, wait 15-20 seconds, turn the PSU back on and try again. This is usually enough and clearing CMOS is not needed.
I got lucky with this board and it boot at the 3rd attempt if settings failhaven't been caught in a loop so far.
Also do not boot directly to windows, run memtest96+ instead, it boots faster, and we want to save your file system from corruption that may result from unstable memory settings.

OK well, I was able to get it stable (8 hours on large and small fft on prime95) at 3.09ghz @ 344x9 just to test my temps and see what I could expect with 3.2 ghz. My temps ran around 67 full load in prime95 and that's about as high as I'm willing to push my cpu at the moment with the garbage aftermarker cooler I'm using. How do i run memtest96+ Chike instead of booting windows? Thanks for all of your help with this, I wish I could have made it a bit easier on you but I don't want to waste too much of your time by having you explain every little thing to me. I will say that with your help and profjim's I was able to use that knowledge to stabilize 3.09 which I am more than satisfied with so thanks a lot! While I have your attention I seem to have been having a problem with windows 7 hibernation. Every time I put the computer into sleep mode and try to wake it 9 times out of 10 it will either a) reboot and get caught in a reboot cycle which I have to turn the computer off and on again to rectify or b) come back on but the monitor will stay blank as if theres no video output coming through even though it's hooked up fine (in which turning the system off and on again fixes).

Memtet86+ can be burnt on a CD or Flash-Drive and booted from it.
I use the auto installer for USB key.
To boot from USB Flash-Drive, press F12 during post (once, after the keyboard lights flash), then select + Hard Disk, enter, your flash drive, enter.
    To run specific test press: c, 1, 3, <test#>, enter, 0.
I usually run test#5 first as it is almost the first one to fail.

EDIT: I gave up on sleep long time ago. This current system seemed to have no problem waking up, however when I ran LinX after waking it up GFlops were lower than at normal boot.
Sleep and hibernation are two different things, though the OS may be aware of both, for hibernation there is no special need from the hardware, the OS save it's state to the hard-drive and shuts the computer completely.
Does hibarnation give you trouble too?

FYI: Had no problem running the Q6600 at 3.6 GHz, on the 4.0D strap, using 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. it was stable as a table.

Our CPU voltages were also very low, and the whole thing ran nice and cool on air.

This was on a GigaByte GA-X38T-DQ6, which we've since upgraded from - so, sorry, I cannot read you exact settings any more.

    Stick with it!
