    Exclamation G31M-S2L Beeps when 2 x 2GB @800 MHz are installed

I have a GA-G31M-S2L Motherboard with BIOS version F8b. I had a 2 GB DDR2 Ram @800MHz installed on it. I recently purchased another DDR2 @GB RAM and installed it.

The computer boots up if I install one RAM but if in install both the RAMs it gives 3 beeps then a pause and then continuous beeps.
I have uploaded a sound file for reference here.
    Motherboard Specification
Will upgrading the BIOS help or should get it replaced?

This is what the user manual says
    1 short: System boots successfully
    2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long 1 short: Memory or Motherboard error
1 long 2 short: Monitor or Graphics card error
1 long 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not installed properly
    Continuous short beeps: Power error
    Other Config:
PSU: CoolerMaster Extreme Power Plus 460 W(RS-460-PCAR-A3)
    Processor: Core 2 Duo E7400 2.80 GHz
    Audio: On-board
    Video: On-board

Upgrading the BIOS may help, if you do update please use Qflash NOT @BIOS.

    Latest is F10f
    GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G31M-S2L (rev. 1.0)

Have you tested the new memory by itself to be sure it is working? Are the sticks the same make and model, if not can you link or give the model of each.

    1. Yes I have tested the RAM sticks and both of them are working the beep comes up only when both of them are installed together. Both the sticks are identical
    2GB DDR 2 800 MHz
the model number's are also same
    Model Number(OLD STICK): KVR800D2N6/2G
    Model Number(NEW STICK): KVR800D2N6/2G-SP
    2. The latest BIOS on the site is still in beta so should I go for F10f or F9? and since there may be a chance of hardware failure on my MOBO is it ok to FLASH the BIOS?

    3. Will Flashing/upgrading the BIOS void the products warranty?

Hmm, those are different part numbers, so not exactly the same. You may need to ask Kingston what the SP in the model name means.

I would go with the latest BIOS I mentioned above. I would do the flash with your old known working stick, by itself.

BIOS flashing will not void your warranty. Here is a guide on how to use Qflash, please use this to flash with - NOT @BIOS
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ash-guide.html

Once the BIOS flash is done, reboot to BIOS and load optimized defaults, then save/apply F10 and reboot back to BIOS.

Then shut down the board and try adding the new memory, use slots 1+3, then if that fails the same way try slots 2+4.

Have you tested at least one stick in the other slot?

G31M-S2L has only 2 Ram slots
and I have tried all the combinations

    SLOT1 + OLD RAM = WORKING!
    SLOT2 + NEW RAM = WORKING!
    SLOT1 + OLD RAM = WORKING!
    SLOT2 + NEW RAM = WORKING!

SLOT1,OLD RAM and SLOT2, NEW RAM = BEEP SOUND
SLOT1,NEW RAM and SLOT2, OLD RAM = BEEP SOUND

I am ready to flash the bios my only concerns are
    1. is it safe to install beta version.
    2. If the the BIOS upgrade fails will it void the warranty?

Flashing BIOS has always an element of risk, but it won't void your warranty if you still have it.
The first 4 digits of the serial number are the manufaturing date, YYWW(year, week), warranty is valid for 3 years sinca manufacturing.
It is a public beta, aand it has been there for quite a while, it sould be safe as any other BIOS.

Try to set +0.1 DDR OverVoltage, and/or +0.1 MCH OverVoltage and see if this make a change before you flash.

I changed DDR2 OverVoltage back to "NORMAL" and it is still working fine!
