    Question Memory Possibilities on GA-P67A-UD3-B3

I'm putting together a plan on a new PC. I've settled (right now) on the Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 motherboard with an Intel 2600K processor. Finding the memory for it is the tricky part. I have the Qualified Vendors List from Gigabyte's site and I've been watching sales on a few other sites. One vendor I'm looking at is G.skill. The issue I'm seeing is cross-referencing what Gigabyte says works with their motherboard is not matching what G.Skill says their ram works with. It's pretty time consuming/frustrating. Example would be:
Gigabyte says F3-17066CL9D-4GBTDS works with this MB, but it's not on G.Skill's approved MB list.
    or
G.Skill says the F3-14900CL9D-4GBXL works with this MB, but it's not on Gigabyte's QVL list.
I know neither company should be expected to validate all compatibilities, but should I call/e-mail Gigabyte or G.Skill to get some verification, or what have other people done other than buy and hope it works based on one vendor or the other?

    Thx,
    Matt

They should work just fine. Suggested that you manually set ram timings and voltages instead of xmp profile.

Btter take the CL8 if you going for the Ripjaws-X, worth the 2 extra bucks.

I want to feel comfortable with it before I buy though Acebmxer. Chike, are you talking about the F3-14900CL8D-4GBXM? G.Skill's sight shows they are compatible with the UD3-B3 MB, so that's a plus.

Can I assume if memory is compatible with the GA-P67A-UD3 MB, that it would be compatible with the GA-P67A-UD3-B3 motherboard? How about if the memory vendor says it's compatible with the GA-P67A-UD7 motherboard? How far from my specific MB can I go?

    thx,
    Matt

I see it shows UD3 not B3, but it should be the same I think.
If it is only listed for UD5/UD7 maybe it was not tested or failed tests with UD3, who knows, but may work later with BIOS updates.

What do you mean, OC? You never know, what do you aim for?

I honestly think you will be fine with either memory. I have used G.skill in my past Gigabyte boards p45-ud3p, EX58-ud5, X58A-ud5 rev2 and had no issues with ram. Only issue you may have is running ram at 2133 on sandy bridge. Alot of people reporting problems running any ram at that speed on other boards not just gigabyte.

That's good to know. I need something to decide between the 1866 and 2133. Numerous problems getting 2133 to work would be a good bit of info. There can't be that much difference.

That F3-14900CL8D-4GBXM memory is looking pretty good.

Chike, I'm aiming for stability really, then speed, then price. I'm trying to get the fastest ram for this MB that won't cause me problems and won't be too much $. 1866 seems like a fast speed, I can get that and still have 2 slots open if I want to get more in a year or 2.

    thx for the input,
    Matt

Memory performance of Sandy Bridge is so good it doesn't make much difference 1866 or 2133, 1600 is not bad at all
I see they sell an 8GB kit of this model which is 4 sticks so you should be able to upgrade.

Do you plan to OC the CPU I mean, which is quite obvious if you buy a K model, or is it just as a future option?

I was planning on slightly overclocking the CPU, but nothing too crazy. I'm planning on getting an aftermarket CPU cooler also. This will mostly be a gaming PC.

If I were you and your planning on gaming and 64bit os I would buy an 8gb matched kit instead of two 4gb kits,I wouldn't worry about 2000+ ram speed or tighter timings as the cpu makes up for it in higher oc speed/headroom

Have you looked at corsair vengeance kit? Is it on qvl list?
