It's Usually all marketing, people saying you "need" 12GB matched kits, but not always as there sometimes can be incompatibility issues between kits or one being better than the other causing issues.

Auto for sure would set tRFC properly I'd imagine, but yes that is a great suggestion that he should check if he can! Command rate of 2T should not be needed at all, of course that will help with stability in any instance with any amount of memory, but it does hurt performance and shouldn't ever be a "have to" thing for DDR3

I did some tests a while back for someone, with two unmatched kits, then three, and had no issues at stock speeds (With the same settings I used for 6GB kit)

12GB of mixed memory @ 1600Mhz. 3 different sets mixed, all with different timings and IC's, even a second brand threw in to mix it up. Each channel set to spec of installed memory, so this is REAL Triple channel :)

    12GB Mixed memory @ 1600Mhz. 2 mixed sets, different timings and IC's

He posted a tRFC of 88 (and in one of the templates even lower), and it seems low to me for a six-pack combo. [Auto] mode depends on the BIOS implementation, some BIOSes will just look at the primary channel slots (sometimes only slot 0/ch A) and get SPD timings from the DIMM installed there, ignoring the other memory slots.

If 88 is the setting for a single three-pack kit then he needs to adjust that manually. When dealing with six-pack kits, lower density kits are fine with a value close to 110, higher density kits require something around 160.

Anyway he probably already RMA'd those so...

Ahh, ya I do see that now that you mention it. As you can see in my images above I manually set 88, before that auto set 110 or so I think, so maybe he just never loaded optimized defaults before he took that image that's showing 88? You are right though, 88 may not be ideal for everyone without tweaking or knowing how to manually adjust things, and auto shouldn't set 88 with 12GB at 1600 either, so that could be the issue unless he never loaded optimized defaults or if he manually set 88.

It does look like he RMA'd already since he's not replied back lately, hopefully that will get things sorted out for him!

I have to catch up on your posts since I've been away for awhile, but they sent two new packs of the same DIMMs.

EDIT: You guys think I should try asking Newegg if they would do a special exchange since I didn't open these packs? Maybe if I note this thread they might help? I bought these on 2-17-2011 so its been a long time. On the Invoice it says "Refund within: 30 days:Replacement within: 30 days" so I'd be pushing my luck.

EDIT2: I'm gonna ask, what do I have to lose!? Which one should I ask to trade for? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...3%20x%204GB%29
    I'm thinking: CORSAIR XMS3 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 Desktop Memory Model CMX12GX3M3A1333C9

    Cas Latency: 9
    Voltage: 1.5V
    Multi-channel Kit: Triple Channel Kit
    Timing: 9-9-9-24
    Model #: CMX12GX3M3A1333C9
    Item #: N82E16820145332

Not because it's the cheapest, but because on Gigabytes page it says "Support for DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules" All the other Corsair 12GB modules are either 1600 or 2000. What do you guys think?

EDIT3: No dice. I love it! OK here we go again. I wish I DID ask Corsair if they could send me a set of 3X4. Oh well. I dunno where to start...lol...Auto 9-9-9-24?

    turned power off PS
put a little piece of masking tape on top of new batch A DIMMS
Installed Batch B in blue slots Batch A in white slots
    turned on PS
    CLR CMOS
    Power Up
    Load Opt Defaults...Save Close
    Enter BIOS
    Enabled all CPU features
    Profile 1 XMP
    all IDE changed to AHCI
    Raid 0 first
    CDROM>HDD Boot seq
    Save Close
MemTest test #4 right now, no problems!

Testing more... *Cross Fingers For Me Plz* ;)

    EDIT1: I'm in!

    Gonna try a shutdown...

Looks good, no issues at all now then right?

It was the old memory somehow not matched perfectly or partially faulty then right?

So far no problems at all. Woke it up from sleep, Win Update downloaded something that req a shutdown. So I shutdown, put in MemTest, powered it on and no errors. By now something would have shown up. So I have to call this "Problem Solved!" ;)
