Thing is if you return it to gigabyte without telling them about the scratches and they spot it, they might not repair it,I would come clean and say they were there when you opened the box and that scan have told you to rma with gigabyte

From that pic it lookslike the scratches have been made by a graphics card or pci device

Yea i was thinking the same to be honest. Im not trying to deceive anyone or anything i just want 1 working PC. The guy i spoke to at scan said Gbyte are pretty helpful when it comes to dealing with customers directly and they are usually pretty good willed so ill add that to my email shall i include the picture scan took?

Personally I wouldn't,but its up to you,I would let them find it but tell them that you noticed the scratches as you first opened the box,and later when you tried powering up it wouldn't so you suspect it being damaged in manufacture or in transit, they will be more helpful than scan have been, for sure

cool ill go with that. Im really annoyed at scan because i pointed out that the post beeps indicate the board is ok so if these tracks were the issue it wouldn't work but they were having none of it. ive got my CPU and MSI mobo on rma with them now so ill see what they say.

At first i thought it could be the graphics card as well but i was very careful i always am plus the second lot of scratches don't match up with the GPU slot and i haven't got any other PCI cards to plug in so it looks more and more like this was caused by someone else

I know ive said it a few times but thank you once again for the help

No problem, they should replace it though, there pretty good, they will fully test it and know whether its the scratches or something else

Yea i mean i really cant see it being the scratches because it never worked i tried to explain this to scan and the guy was having none of it. They were making out i had made massive marks on the board. I have to say scan have been very good in the past but the last week or 2 has done it for me i wont be buying from then again. i explained that that ive had 4 faulty products from them (maybe 5 if the cpu turns out to be faulty) and that even if this is against there terms that maybe they should waver it to help out someone who has spent close to a grand in the last month from them but they weret having it. looks like its ebuyer for me from now on!

Did you verify the serial number of the board you received back matched up with the box you have, or sent in? If they don't match then ya they sent you a different board back.

Those scratches to look like they were caused by a PCI/PCIE card bracket, but they don't look to have actually caused any damage to the traces anyway, so Gigabyte will probably just test this and let it slide anyway as it doesn't look physically damaged to me.

Of course that is just one image that isn't in very good lighting, can you take another in good lighting, or just look at the board and see if any of the scratched actually do through the PCB first layer coating and scratch or break any of the copper traces there.

ok yea i didnt write down the serals before i sent it in maybe i should have but they both match with the box but there are a few people on scan's care foum complaing about reciving items that have missing parts and stuff so i think theres something going on with there returns.

As for the scratches i cant take another picture scan took that one and to be honest thats as bad as it can look u cant see the scratches from the side and they seem to follow the tracks up and down so it looks a lot like they are just on the surface but they are so so small when you look at the whole board without the picture i would have never have seen them. I really don't think its got to the copper though.

Gbyte asked to see a picture and they said that they will try and repair it but if not they wont replace it. I was hoping that if they couldn't repair it i could convince them to replace it with another board ( even a lower model at this point would be good). They sent me a RMA number yesterday about 1pm but then at about 3pm they sent me another saying that they actually think ive got a B2 board which is odd. Im guessing they can tell from the picture/serial? the board and box say B3 but im not going to argue. They told me to use the link on the Gbyte site and ill get a reply within 2 weeks for the swap
