The board does not have eSATA ports at all, that may be the root of the problem.

OK, so the sata ports on the board don't have power. That makes sense now.

My case, a Coolermaster HAF 932, has an eSata port on the front that connects to the board using a regular Sata connector.

Anything thing I can add hardware wise (different cables, etc.) to get eSata in the front?

If it doesn't work on both the front and bracket, probably not.
Do you have the latest BIOS installed?
As I said before, for less than 20USD you can get an add-on pci-e card that should work.

BTW I have seen review where hybrid drives performed better with USB than with the eSata. And it has USB 3.0 interface no?

If I want to use the cases front panel/hub which has the eSata port, I can get a PCI-e card with an internal port and connect the sata cable from the case to the internal port on the card and it will work?

Likewise, yes the case has USB 2 ports on the front panel, but they're USB2. If I get a USB3 card will I not have to plug the external drive in the back of the case where the internal card plugs is exposed?

If theinternal port is specified as eSata - maybe. But the eSata port on the back should be fine.
As always reading user reviews can help.

I guess you can't use the front USB for USB3, not sure but I think the cable is different.
