    Default EP45-UD3LR + Intel Q9550 @ 3.4 Ghz proper settings please

    Hi guys, I need a little help in this topic.

    Till now I used to OC my CPU @ 3.4GHz with almost full auto settings, but yesterday it just restarted while encoding with x264 current version, the second pass failed all the time.
    So I decided to set up my machine properly and I wanna ask your help!

    Lets try to get you stable at stock first and take it from there.
    Load optimized defaults, set RAID/boot option you have used before, reboot, etup RAID if you have one, and apply the following settings.

    I just stressed my cpu with encoding one of my bds with x264. The first pass was ready, so I used only the 2nd pass, which took about 3.5 hours on 100% load.
    (I wrote with bold the changes due to your config Chike)

    My questions are:

    1.) what is load-line calibration for? Is it better to enable or disable
    2.) Now I just lowered my CPU Vcore to 1.500 and testing with prime95, what is the lowest setting which is fine for 3.4 GHz ?
    3.) What do you think about these settings above (mainly the changes I made due to your advice) ?

    1.8v vcore? If this is not a mistake stop right now. 1.5 is also too high. What is vcore in CPU -Z, at idle and under load?

    LLC help vdroop, keeps voltage at idle and under load the same all the time. I use it, some say it's not good up to you to decide.

    About the settings, memory could run much better with 2.66D multiplier, DRam voltage 2.2-2.3v and MCH Core 1.16-1.24v.
    Did you find the clock skews to be more stable by yourself?

    yeah, you are right, it was a misspell only, cpu vcore is 1.2000 (I have no idea why I wrote 1.800 ...)
    cpu-z 1.55 x64 says: idle vcore: 1.168, under load (prime95 x64 running): 1.152. Well these values are totally bullsh.t....

    Well, the DRam voltage above 2.1 is colored with pink and above 2.2 is with red :x Isn't it too high ? Coz when I set up the ram to 1066 MHz (x.xxD as far as I remember for 400 FSB) and set the DRam voltage to 2.080 the prime just frozed (and the whole machine), that's why I put back the ram settings to default.

    I think for x264 encode the CPU is the only matter, dunno what about other tests.

    Set DRAM Voltage as specified for your kit, the Kingston site says 2.2-2.3 but check the box or the sticker on the modules. If they say 2.2-2.3 than it is fine.

    Also the MCH Core is very importand with 4GB or more and high DDR, so set it manually.

    You have CPU Clock Skew 100 and MCH Clock Skew 200, did you find these values to be stable by yourself or did you saw it somewhere and use them?

    Please run 3-5 runs of LinX with 3072MB memory with stock settings. This stress test is a very good indication if there is enough vcore or not. Post max GFlops for the test.
    Watch temperatures with Real Temp or CoreTemp, while under 75c core temperatures are fine.

    Well, under load my temp is around 74c due to realtemp, but if the weather (and my room) gets hotter, I think it will be 80-82c. Is that too much ? (I use the CPU rarely on 100% load of course)

    I will test with LinX and post the results soon!

    Tests are around 38.37-38.65 GFlops, but the temp is higher then 75c :(
    While it is under 100% load (coz of LinX) ~85C :O
    Is that too much? Should I care about it or do something for lower cpu temp ?

    Set the clock skews back to 0, they are specific to every system and cannot be copied. You will have to find the best setting by yourself, at 400MHz they may not be needed at all.

    Yes temps will scale almost liniary with room temperature.
    Those temps are a bit high for 3.4GHz what thermal compound do you use?

    LynX will cause much higher temps than Prime95, so stop if you exceed 80c.

    I got some average thermal compound, but already ordered Thermaltake TG-1, it hasn't arrived yet.

    A moment and I will restart my computer to set the clock skews back to 0.

    update: clock skews are set back to 0. I lowered the cpu vcore back to 1.19375 (just one level lower, than 1.2000 before), but the linx makes my cpu heat as hell: ~80c and going up :\ My idle temp is around 50c also.
