Give it a try to see if you can boot into the bios.
If you're not successful, repeat the clear cmos procedure with the battery removed and with the power supply unplugged.
(Hours ago) OK profJim, still didn't post...

    PSU

Check out GFX and 64/32 bit OS where I advised a fellow Australian (is the term Aussie OK?) with a psu upgrade, starting in post #7. Post any psu questions you might have in this thread.

I went out and bought a better PSU; Antec TP new 650W replaced Vantec ION2 I got with C2D machine last year, my earlier suspicion...

JUST BOOTED TO BIOS, now I have to flash to latest...

    Sure, Aussie is OK...

Excellent psu choice, The Antec TP-650 True Power New is made by Seasonic and has excellent reviews from the top tier psu review sites.
It looks like your former psu gave up or just couldn't deal with waking from sleep mode.
Now you'll be able to set up CrossfireX with your new psu.

Thanks profJim, I had a quick look around the web whilst instore. Would have liked an 80 plus silver rating, but I'm in Australia and couldn't stretch to the $180 (Corsair HX750) from the $125 ish for the Antec (made by seasonic)... Next gfx upgrade will be team green again lol, but truth is my PCIE 8x slot works better for me with the 120Gig Revodrive which I prefer to the 80Gig Intel G2 that the machine used to boot from...

    The freakish thing was...
With all this palava, I had reset the CMOS (demonstrated by the default Gigabyte splash screen at power up), shorted cmos reset pins, pressed reset button, installed jumper across pins, so on , so forth. BUT when the comp finally posted successfully without any Revodrive/HDDs/ODD/multiple sticks of RAM/USB devices connected...

After resetting the time and date then powering down, my next power up into BIOS revealed Bootable add in cards as first boot device AND ALL correct RAM settings, so I decided to go for gold...
At this point I connected Revodrive, both HDDs, ALL previously connected USB devices and the machine posted to password prompt then booted straight into windows in the standard 15 to 20 seconds as if nothing had ever happened....

So, the moral of the story is that the dual BIOS feature worked exceedingly well after all and it was an old PSU that caused the all the panic...

Ahhh, not to forget the LEDs... I did read in one of the other threads about someone with a similar issue with the Blue CPU LED on the top left corner of the board, who found their issue was a PSU too (this was when I started considering the PSU could be an issue...)the ACPI power LEDS S4 5 is lit red when PSU power is on and machine has been shut down/ waiting for start...

PS Thank you very much for your efforts and quick responses, hopefully I will be able to push the wheel in the same direction too...

    Regards,
    GDavid

PS might be time to try some gentle overclocking, is the EP45-DS4P/C2Q 9550 as easy at stock volts as the P35-DS3/C2D E8200? ;)

Glad to help out and hear that the new psu got rid of the no post, boot loop problem. An 80+ Silver rated psu would have about 3% more efficiency than an 80+ Bronze rated unit. Depending upon how much power your system uses and how many hours per day you use your system, the long term electricity cost savings with a more efficient psu could take anywhere from 2 - 10 years to reach the break even point.

There is no guarantee as to how high you can overclock a cpu while using stock voltage settings. I've seen several Q9550 setups that could overclock to 3.5GHz or higher with stock volts and some that needed moderate voltage increases to o/c to 3.2 - 3.4GHz. Your EP45 motherboard offers many additional M.I.T. tweaking options compared with P35 systems. Some of these options are required to reach higher overclocks.

For overclocking your system, it would be best to create a new thread with a title similar to EP45-DS4P + Q9550 Highest Overclock Using Stock Volts. Many who start with modest o/c goals get addicted to the improved performance once they start and "need" to o/c higher and higher. You've been warned.
