Uf GIGABYTE removed it from the serbers you want to think twice before using it.
It's worse than a beta BIOS it's known to be no good.

    OK success FE is installed!

What is the difference in the moded one and why would you want to use that one instead?

    Thank you for the update(s)!

So you are updated to FE the one I modded? Congrats you flashed with @bios? The modded bios only has updated roms compared to the standard FE. Roms meaning the Intel Raid rom the Lan rom.

Now that the main bios is up to date, you now wanna update the back up bios. To do that you wanna load optimized defaults press F10 to save and reboot. On start up hold the "ALT" key + "F12" key together and then you should have the option to flash the back up bios. This will copy the main bios to the back up bios.

The only thing I noticed in FE that they took out in Ff1 is USB3 legacy device. I dont know when they tried to implement this but maybe why they pulled a bunch of the final bios's?.?

I am using Ff1 now and so far no issues.

    Acebmxer,

Is that true what "CHIKE" says about the FE Bios being no good? Gigabyte may have removed it but it is now back!

What was updated in the Raid and LAN ROM chips? I am not using RAID - I just have my bios set to IDE mode so it is even too late for me to change it from what I have read since I already installed my OS. If I try to change it in BIOS I believe it will cause all types of problems?

My current installed bios is FE (not the moded FE).

    Thank you,

    Michael

I dont know why they were pulled at first. I have had no issues with FE other then seeing the added usb3 legacy support. It did not appear to work as its default to disabled. If change to Enabled it will reset back to disabled next time you enter bios.

the Raid rom is for people who use raid. Its the bios that controls the raid it self. If you are connected to the Sata2 ports you should use AHCI at least for better performance. A quick search hear by LSD there are 3 registry entries that can be changed and then you can switch between IDE AHCI and RAID with out BSOD. Your case in windows make registry change reboot set bios to ahci save boot back to windows then install drivers. If you cant find it i can search for you and post link.

Gigabyte site still show file FD and they brought back Fe5 beta bios for X58a-ud5 Rev2.

    Acebmxer,

Well I successfully switched over to AHCI and everything was working well until this morning until I came out of sleep mode overnight. After moving the mouse to wake up the system I just heard a constant cycle of clicking noises and my computer would not boot up again!

Hopefully this is just something that was not set right in the bios that I missed from before? Any ideas what could be the problem?

After shutting off the power and restarting I did get a "resuming windows" message and it went right to the desktop and I could hear the hard drive loading back everything.

Glad to hear you switched over to ahci with no probelms. As far as sleep goes. Are running at default settings or are you overclocked. The system has to be fully stable to resume from s3 sleep. Have you done any testing to make sure the system is stable? Lately I havent let my system go to sleep but the 1 or 2 times that it has, has resulted in the same situation. S3 sleep might be broken in this bios not sure.

Make sure the system is stable with LinX or prime95 Make sure memory is ok with Memtest86. Might have to increase vcore a little bit or qpi/voltage. Are all power saving options set on in bios? For me c3-c6 states are broken after 200 bclk.

I had to switch back to FD Bios because I didn't like that the sleep mode with mouse wakeup was not working:(

First I tried going back to IDE mode, and then changing some bios settings but nothing made a difference. Switching back to FD.....and again it works like it should - also in ACHI mode! I guess I will have to wait till Gigabyte irons out all the buts and then releases a later version?

As far as overclocking is concerned for some reason I have a hard time running anything past my I7-950's 3.06 GHz speed! I think I can get it to run at 3.2 but have to keep the Corsair Vengeance 1600 at 1600. I have't done too much experimenting though because I just want my computer to be stable.

Initially I had OCZ memory and they were terrible! Couldn't even run them near the rated speed. They had the nerve to tell me that nothing was wrong with them and would issue me a refund! Newegg gave me store credit after 3 months but that was also a hassle!

    Thanks for all your help!

You need to be 100% stable for S3 sleep to work, so it could have just been instability in your settings causing it to not resume properly on that newer BIOS.
