If you could test it out for me that would be great. I would very much appreciate that.

Below is the quick run down:

    on X58A-UD7 motherboard system:
    - enable "PME Event Wake Up" on the motherboard under Power Management Setup
    - on the OS, check "Allow this device to wake the computer"

On the system that you will be using to wake up the X58a system, this system need to be on win7, install "Advanced IP Scanner" and use it wake up the X58A system just from sleep. If it is successful, try waking it up from shutdown.

Let me know if you have any luck.

Thank you very much for doing this.

Tried this, but did not make any different. Even though the led on the NIC is not lid, the led on the switch is. Actually I saw someone on this forum mentioned that so I had a look, sure enough that is the case.
I'll try to test tonight, but it may take a day or two as I'm super busy this week at work.

I'll test on UD7 Rev 1.0 as the machine to be woke up, it will have Win7 x64 SP1 as the OS. I'll let you know how it goes.

If it matters, the machine I'll wake it up from will be a EX58-UD5 using Vista, or a Asus P55 using XP. Hope that doesn't matter, if it does please let me know asap.

*Edit* - I re-read your comments, I'll setup the UD5 on windows 7 as well, since you said the machine needs to be win7 that does the waking up action right?*

On the UD7 I'll be using one of the above linked BIOSes, and yes they are fine to flash and use and have been tested and or are being used by many others around the web already (I help in tons of forums, and always share my mods)

I have no trouble waking up X58a-UP7 from a laptop running xp or server 2008. I'm just having trouble waking it from a win 7. If you don't already have win 7 installed on another system, it is a lot of trouble to go thru for this setup, unless you're using some virtual machine.

    Thank you very much.

Plz let me know how you woke up the system. By Magic Packet or other WOL utilities?

I have tried with at least a dozen of these wol utils, the main one I'm using is the Avanced Ip Scanner that I mentioned earlier. Why? I thought they all do the same.

LSD, I hope you have not spent all the time setting up win7 for this test. I have installed win7 on a couple of pc's and was able to wake up my x58a-ud7 system. So the problem may not be win7. The only different is that the win7 I recently installed is 32bits and the system I was having trouble with is 64bits.

Just want to thank all you folks for your help.

I am sure he is been busy with work and other real life stuff. But he will get around to doing this for you. Im sure of that.

As for the new information. You are saying The ud7 has win 7 64 and the system that you are using to wake it up with has win 7 32 bit. Yet that same win 7 32bit system can wake up other systems that are running win 7 64?

I can try installing win7 32bit and try again for you.

Sorry I did not get around to testing this last night. I was half asleep when I posted last night. I will try this soon.

Installed win7 32bit on second system. Shut down x58 system (win 764bit) With Advanced IP Scanner told the x58 system to WOL(startup from shutdown) and the system turned on.

I am thinking this must be a software issue or bios issue. Hopefully LSD will chime in with his test.

I recently installed win7 32bit on two systems and these did not have any problem waking up the x58a system.

What I'm still having trouble with is waking up the x58a system from an HP laptop running win7 64bits.

Is the laptop having the problem when connected with a cable(assuming it's wireless)?
